CRICKET Australia v India Summer

There could be an opportunity later in the series for Konstas to come in and McSweeney to 2nd drop if Smith doesnt do something soon.
More likely Smith gets a 70 something when it doesn't matter and buy himself another 2 years

I just don't think the selectors will drop anyone. If they went for a half fit Marsh over Webster, it kind of says everything.

Gets even harder though if Shami is back.

If he`s fit .
Hasn`t played for India for a year after ankle surgery .Now apparently his knee swelled up after his last T20 match . 3 tests in Oz might be too much for him ?

Yeah definitely could be. I wasn't aware his knee swelled up, if so then you would definitely think it might be a bridge too far for him to come this series. I wonder if they might see how they go game three and then go from there. If they lose game 3, they might take the gamble. If it ends up being 2-2 going into the fifth test, I reckon they would definitely risk it then.

Anyone else miss 5-day tests?

I finally had an opportunity to sit down and watch a good chunk of uninterrupted cricket on Sunday arvo and it was all over.
Mate!! I had knee surgery this morning and was planning on 2 days of cricket to kill the time. Very disappointed lol

Smith gets replaced by Green in our next test series. I think Khawaja will need a score.

Of course this is all dependent on how the incumbents go over the next 3 tests but if Smith, Marsh, Carey and Khawaja continue to struggle, I'd be looking at replacing them for SL with the following:

1. Konstas
2. McSweeney
3. Labushagne
4. Green
5. Head
6. Webster
7. Inglis
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood/Boland - Hazlewood seems to be constantly injured these days.

Carey is very safe IMO. Be staggered if they made a move to Inglis at this point.

Yeah I think you are right but Carey dropped another catch in the test just finished and failed with the bat again. Inglis is an absolute gun. I could see him being put in to open though depending on whether the selectors feel Konstas is ready or not and more importantly, if McSweeney fails as an opener.

Assume you mean Inglis to open but not keep as well?

Yep. McSweeney isn't an opener IMO and is better suited for middle order.

Inglis is a better option to opening the batting if they don't want to blood Konstas yet - which they shouldn't. I'd put Renshaw in the conversation as well.

Henry Hunt has started the season really well too and he was in the conversation a couple of years back.

Disappointed is an understatement in your situation, I'm sure.
Hope the recovery goes well, mate!
Cheers mate. I’ll be locked in for plenty of cricket next weekend now.

What is the reasoning behind your thought process on Inglis being better suited to open the McSweeney.

On what we've seen at Test level, that lineup would get slaughtered unless Marnus/Head make a significant contribution. No I'm not expecting Konstas, Webster or Inglis to be an instant success.

We need to transition, probably slightly better than what the Indians are about to do. I can see Virat and Rohit calling it stumps at the same time, that would leave them in all sorts.

Australia is likely to have all of Smith, Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon and Khwaja retire at the same time. Who knows Marsh and Carey might too. They are all trying to hang on to the next Ashes.
