Yes and given that point, bringing in Inglis at 6 isn't the worst shout by any means. Head and McSweeney could play that 5th bowler role enough. They aren't going to offer less than Marsh anyway.

This Indian team would be absolutely fucked without him, he’s getting half their wickets in what feels like every innings. He’s not very effective with an older ball though, he might need to work on that somehow. Travis Head has feasted after our openers have dug in and softened up the ball a bit.

Hopefully we get most of play in for the rest of the game because I can’t see us losing, I can see is being a draw if the weather intervenes.

He averages 19 around the world, he's freakish good. The fact India would be getting smashed without him speaks volumes.

Trouble with using part time spinners is if the opposition decide to go after them it starts raining sixes and you lose control of the momentum . A good medium pacer is harder to hit out of the attack . Also spinners bowl overs faster meaning less rest for the fast bowlers in harsh conditions .

Agreed but the pitches in Australia seem to be bowler friendly at present, even Nathan Lyon has hardly been used. He's more than capable anyway of holding down an end for long periods, so he can also cover Marsh.

But even if you really do want to go with the pace bowling all rounder, Webster's record leaves Marsh's for dead as a batsman and that is the number 6's primary role. Marsh has been given about 40 more tests than most to prove his worth and he just hasn't plus he's getting on now.

The selectors won't drop him because they won't drop anyone but if he doesn't make a score in the remaining innings this summer, the pressure on him will and should be immense. If he does make a score, he will go back to mediocrity again immediately and still not be under any pressure for his spot whatsoever.

Remember, Brad Hodge, an infinitely better batsman, got dropped after making a double ton.
