CRICKET Australia v India Summer

Spencer Johnson was getting a mention by Fleming today.

We just need 2 of Jhye/O'neill/Bartlett/Johnson to stay fit and be playing shield cricket to go alongside the big 4 and we're set for bowlers. Vidler could elevate himself pretty quickly too.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Hazlewood moving forward. He has been breaking down a lot in the last two years, I wonder if we might get a surprise retirement.

Late 20’s barely played any shield cricket. Can’t see it. Body a bit brittle too. Keep him as a short form bowler imo

He’s bowling very well though. It’s tough that even our back up bowlers are in their 30’s at the moment

Elliot is the best bowler in Shield.

That`s what I heard Skull say .
Mathew Elliot`s son . Tried looking him up on Cric Info no record ?

I am happy to be the same as Kerry.

I watched Sam Elliot at the Gabba this week. Gee he’s impressive, so tall and Bulls couldn’t handle him.

The ball flies off the bat to the slips. He’s had a great start.

23 wickets in first seven games and 19 this year in five games. Then his overall game with OD 27 wickets in 15 games.

50 wickets in 22 games.

He can also hold a bat. He moves it well off the seam.

Get these guys out and then bat all day. No chance of a win may as well tire their bowlers

I'm actually relieved they didn't get the final wicket yesterday to enforce the follow on. I don't think they have enough in the tank to take 10 wickets today and the risk of another fast bowler going down with injury would be devastating with the talent not really sitting there ready to replace them currently.

I have to ask, are the selectors scared to make a tough call?

Why risk the Hoff when Boland is a known performer?

Different injury .
Sat out with a side strain . Now has calf strain .

Hazlewood was #3 in ICC rankings for bowlers at the start of the series .

Who are the likely contenders?

In the current squd:
Boland (obviously next man in)
Abbott
Doggett
Webster (unlikely of course)

Outside but could be in contention:
Bartlett
Richardson
O'Neill
Morris
McAndrew
Steketee
Neser (if he is recovered)
What’s the hype around Doggett and Abbott? Both averaging around 30 with the ball. Abbott has been good this SS season, but is older, has a poor overall record, and we have younger options coming through. Seems like another case of being a good bloke shaving 10-15 off your average/ age in the eyes of the selectors.

Yeah I mentioned it earlier in the thread. Abbott seems like a job for one of the boys. Doggett did well in an A game against India he wasn’t even originally picked for. In terms of Doggett though, would he be in the t20 side of whoever he plays for? I wonder if that had a bearing which it shouldn’t.

Never really rated Abbott, he might have a role in limited overs given we never play our full strength side but that should be all. His biggest strength seems to be experience, but surely you'd want a younger, better bowler to get as much game time alongside Cummins, Starc and Lyon as possible.

Surely Konstas and Webster are making sure their phones are fully charged in anticipation for a call from the selectors.
