CRICKET Australia v India Summer

Marsh should be gone for next test, cya. This should be Uzzie's last summer and if he departed after this game so be it. 38yo opener, good luck.

Agree with all this. Absolutely love Khawaja but he’s just not gonna get back to his peak now. We might get another big innings if we’re lucky.

Marsh continually getting games on the back of his mateship with the captain. They’re very close. Sure he’s had the odd big game but other than that he’s useless. Averaging under 30 after 40 tests just ain’t it.

Surely Konstas and Webster are making sure their phones are fully charged in anticipation for a call from the selectors.

Not going to happen. The coach is too much one of the boys, he's too cosy with them all, no one is going to be dropped even when they should be.

Would Konstas, Webster and Inglis do any worse than Khawaja, McSweeney and Marsh?

Ashwin has retired with immediate effect!

India really are in transition. Australia won't be far behind.

Marsh will be picked again. They were chatting through team selection on Triple M and the guys were almost certain they'll just move Marsh up to open if there's any doubt about his role in the middle order.

It is actually pathetic that he keeps getting given chances.

What the **** was this second innings?

Reckless batting at its finest, almost as bad as England.

They were trying to force a result. I don’t mind seeing them not giving up on the win even if unlikely.

Haha what the **** for... how does he perform any better opening against Bumrah than coming in at 6 late in the innings.

McSweeny going to be hung out to dry after being shoehorned into opening instead of a position down the order like he plays at shield level

I would've preferred they just sent them out there to bat given the significant amount of guys currently out of form and needing time in the middle.

McSweeney actually looks pretty good, he’s just up against a freak bowler. He looks fine against everyone other than Bumrah. He is soaking up ball though. He should get SL before being hung out to dry but he isn’t one of the in crowd so he’s definitely more on the chopping block than anyone else in the side.

Absolutely he should... throwing a rookie into his debut series against a guy that is averaging 12 for the series.

Like you say he's looked good against anyone not named Bumrah... pretty much everyone has looked pretty good against all the other bowlers... the issue has been Bumrah taking 2-3 wickets in his first spell of the innings and decimating the top order.

Comment was more about media commenting that Marsh would be moved to open... who the **** would come up with that as a viable option... and it would seemingly be for McSweeney.

McSweeney not getting much help having to head to SL after this though... notoriously hard place for Aussie batsmen ... I hope he can play spin.

Very good player of spin. If anything I think he needs to be there because he can play spin.

I figured he might be able to given he's normally a number 4... hope he kills it and gets a bit of a reprieve compared to the Bumrah onslaught he's had to endure to start his career

He gets squared up quite a bit which is a concern. He can clearly bat and has a decent temperament though. Just needs time. Tough gig for him.

Yeah. I am a big fan of Nathan’s but I’ve conceded defeat at opener. I think he should have been introduced down at 5 or 6 and when he got comfortable move into 3 or 4. I think to be fair it’s a brutal series to try and gauge where he is at.

Yeah definitely would've been better to get the normal middle order treatment and start down at 5 or 6.

Given Marsh's form and the eventual return of Green this series would've been a great opportunity to play him at 6 as that position won't need an all rounder when Green is back.

Issue moving forward is that Head looks every bit a number 5... counter attacking middle order bat that can score quickly under pretty much all scenarios... there's no real need to move him up the order like what would normally happen.

Green will come back as the long term number 4... and he's much better suited up the order than down at 6

And Marnus is the number 3 who the selectors will be hoping gets back to some sort of form and be a mainstay at the spot.

That really only leaves opener or 6 for McSweeney moving forward and even for the longer term with Marnus, Head and Green not really leaving the team over the next 5 years if their form holds.

Maybe Marnus gets moved to open and a spot opens for McSweeney at 3, but is that much of an improvement on opener?

3's are basically openers nowadays.
