Australia vs India Discussion

I really rate Pucovski, but if I was going to blood him it would be against Sri Lanka, not India considering we have two of the biggest tests of the year coming up. Marsh, despite his decent second innings knock, has been putrid for ages and shouldn't be going to England next year if we want to win, so I'd be saying cya later to him (I know he won't be dropped). Personally I'd go:

1. Harris (gotta give him a second test)
2. Burns (I'd pick Renshaw regardless of form because he needs to be playing in England, but Burns is better for this series)
3. Usman
4. Maxwell (has proven he can dominate Ashwin at all levels and is the best fielder in the world with a FC average of 41. Beyond belief that he hasn't played in Australia)
5. Head
6. Wade
7. Carey
8. Cummins
9. Tremain
10. Lyon
11. Hazle

Starc needs a spell out of the side to rest or whatever because his form this year has been crap.

EDIT: Make Lyon or Hazlewood the captain.

Like this a lot and can certainly understand the reasoning behind Tremain too. I think this side is close to best available (I also know S.Marsh won't get dropped, especially after another well timed 50 in a match where everyone sucked as usual.

My man crush on Richardson gets me picking him over Tremain though.

I'm all for trying different options in our middle order but to suggest Maxwell at 4 is ludicrous. His highest ever score batting at 4 is 60 and his first class career average batting at 4 is 25.91. It is quite comfortably the weakest statistical position to bat him in.

Patterson and Lehmann have to be on the radar.

They have two of the strongest FC averages of any of our available options.

Next test will be (based on the squad) :
Harris
S Marsh
Khawaja
Handscomb
Head
M Marsh
Wade (paine if fit)
Starc
Cummins
Hazlewood
Lyon

Not a bad outcome but given 0/112 should have been 450.

India's bowling fluctuated between tight and all over the place- short and then full.

Really disappointed with how Australia went on after a great start from the openers. For none of those blokes to carry on after fifty and make a ton is troubling, but as you said, some of India’s bowling was very good. Up to Australia now to dominate with the ball and hopefully take a lead of a hundred or so into the second inning.

An entertaining days play of cricket. Started off with a tremendous century to Virat Kohli who truly stamped his class on the proceedings. Without his contribution, India wouldn't be in the contest and we'd be well and truly looking at a 1-1 series. The dismissal was unlucky as well, but proved a turning point in the game as it allowed Australia to get back into the contest.

It's been a nervous second innings thus far from Australia. The injury to Finch put a real dampener on the Australian's innings and they've yet to find a partnership. In the end, they actually did well to only lose four wickets as the Indian bowlers were well and truly getting on top of them.

The ball is in Australia's court and they have the opportunity now to put themselves into a winning position. If Khawaja and Paine can build a partnership and Finch can return, a lead of 300+ isn't out of the question.

Aussies did well. Handscomb is done, he won’t play again but they are already in a defendable position, still need another 100-150 but that pitch is starting to misbehave even more.

Khawaja has always had two massive weaknesses, running between the wickets and fielding. Under pressure at the moment he's regressed to poor running again. Needs to rotate the strike or he is going to be tied down then try and get out of it.

Australia still aren't winning enough of those moments, when it comes time to press ahead they falter which is probably where they're at as a team.

To be fair, these two have handled this first session thus far perfectly. Let’s see if they bring it home.

3 quick wickets after lunch has brought India right back into this.

Think Aussies already have enough if they bowl well. This pitch has spice in it.

Hazlewood and Starc to bat 3 and 4 next test.

Now, to bowl good line and length and let this minefield of a wicket do the rest.

Pepper the shit out of Kohli, then knock the stumps out with a Yorker. The place will pop big time. Get Kohli and it will just about be game over for India.
