Simon Katich has named who his XI would be for the first test -

1. Khawaja
2. Renshaw
3. Handscomb
4. S.Marsh
5. Finch
6. Stoinis
7. Paine
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

Not too bad, I don't think that's far off our best line-up right now.

Why isn't Burns in the conversation more? Been terrific for Queensland for 12 months.

49, 80*, 64, 7, 0, 16, 49, 41, 97, 24, 202, 4, 81, 103. 817 runs at 62.

Club this year: 106*, 65*, 216, 19 and 100. 506 runs at 253.

He should be second batsman chosen after Khawaja.

Renshaw 21
Burns 6
Labuschagne 52
Cartwright 42
Marsh 21
M.Marsh 1
Head 87
Lehmann 8
Handscomb 4

Not a great round, big score could have seen you get a Test spot.

Such a shame about Pucovski’s issues.

At this rate, Neser is a better player than most of the contenders. When bowlers are out-scoring and out-consistent-ing your top/middle order, things aren’t good

Renshaw can't be picked in the Test side, that dismissal yesterday was awful, why does he start seasons so slowly?

Doolan now has 115, 10, 76, 6, 53, 90, 0 and 94.

Been a few years since he played a Test but he's doing his best to get back there.

Gotta give it to him, even if he fails overseas, he's still performing better than everyone in Australia. Gotta be picked.

It's true, he is the only one (outside possibly Wade and Boo-urns) who are looking remotely like being in form (Doolan has a good innings and then fails).

My revised side (and it will be revised again multiple times before the first test cos who doesn't love a good cricket XI??):

1. Khawaja
2. Burns
3. Patterson
4. S.Marsh
5. Finch
6. Wade (wk)
7. Pattinson
8. Cummins
9. Starc
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

12. J.Richardson
13. Sangha

They won't be dropping Paine, at least until Smith can re-claim the captaincy. But I agree that there's a very strong argument to pick Wade as a specialist batsman at this point, he's 88* again today, his 5th 50+ of the season.

Khawaja back in the nets against throw downs and a chance to play for Bulls next week.

Do you mean Kurtis?

He hasn't made a 100 since 2016. His 100 on debut for NSW in 2011 is 1/4 of his 100's in seven years! Two more starts against the Bulls and nothing.

Yep I know but the batting is going to be the same no matter who you pick, they all suck. At least with Patterson you are likely to get some runs and hopefully avoid the usual collapse. He’s good for 30-60 most innings, just once he gets there, you tell the next guy to get ready. Most other batsmen are 0 or 80 types.

There's no chance we can win in England with the Marsh brothers. I'd drop Mitch until he has a shield season averaging something ridiculous, and make this Shaun's fair well home summer. If he doesn't want to retire drop him for England. At the moment I'd go with:

Renshaw
Finch (would prefer him at 5, but that can happen for the English Ashes)
Khawaja
Smarsh
Maxwell (50+ average last season, didn't deserve to get dropped after his last stint. Best fielder in the world etc)
Wade (form middle/ lower order batsman in the country playing at Hobart which is a tough wicket)
Paine (needs to perform, shouldn't have been recalled to begin with and shouldn't have unlimited chances)
bowlers

Other options for batting: Burns, Short, Lehmann

EDIT: Harris as an option as well.

I just feel you can't drop M.Marsh for non-performing and pick Renshaw for non-performing. Don't mind your side @Battler but I do feel Burns should be in Renshaw's spot. The res is hard to argue with.

Pretty pathetic when the second best available batsman behind Khawaja is S.Marsh, a guy who averages 35 in test cricket.
