I'm not a West Australian so I don't automatically rate QLDers just from being from my state. I still have question marks over Burns outside of Australia, but he could be what we need for this series; I'm not convinced that he'll be good in England which is the series we should have in mind. Renshaw, outside of his start to the shield season, has been performing very well in FC cricket and will be a mainstay in our side, he has to be there imo. We will need him in England, picking blokes like Harris and Burns who will score well on Aus roads (anyone we pick will) is fine for this upcoming series, but the selectors will convince themselves, like they did for the Marsh brothers, that because they plundered runs on decks with zero tricks against shit attacks that they'll be able to face swing bowling on green English decks.
Matt Short, he looks like a very assured player in defence and is averaging mid 40's. He needs to keep performing but he looks the goods.
I think Wade was fielding at point or cover yesterday? Couldn't really tell from the stream. He's averaging 100+ this year, and has been averaging over 40 since he was dropped. He's also averaging close to 40 overall at FC level despite WKing most of his career. He's not at his calibre as a player obviously, but for example Sangakarra averaged under 50 until he gave up the gloves. Wade has also been performing in the lower middle order where we need runs and his 125-130km/h medium pacers are the equal of MMarsh's.
Paine has been good as a keeper, but if we have a number 6 averaging sub-30 we need a keeper batsman. I'm in favour of picking specialists in the state we're in at the moment, so he can stay. Just keep in mind that he hasn't scored a century for over a decade.
EDIT: it's not like Paine is the best gloveman in test cricket. Watling, Sarfraz, and Foakes are all as good with the gloves but are competent batsmen to boot.
