CRICKET Australian tour of Pakistan

Ok new ball is taken, I think its the right call because you still get potentially five overs of spin at the end if needed.
Yeah only 12 overs left... so need to get it into Starc and Cummins hands to see if it will do anything.

Then later Lyon with a newer ball

Wow, if he gets a chance at one of these tail enders and re-produces that ball, he'll get a few.

Yeah has actually been a good over by Starc to start for once

That's a somewhat risky shot given the situation... one of those baiting balls that could've gone straight to the slips instead of the boundary

Alright tail ender on strike to Cummins, make it happen Cap.

Nope Lyon with the new ball. I would have gone Cummins.

Not sure about that call... surely Cummins takes the new ball with the tail ender on strike!!

And now stops it from the boundary to let him off strike

Rizwan dropped by Uzzie with 3 overs to go ... another sitter

Another drop! Khawaja this time. Aussies have no one to blame but themselves.

Well I'm chalking that up as a loss.

Inexcusable to not get the win when you've got a 1st innings lead of 400+ after both sides have batted with two days to play.

That was almost as bad as Headingly. Not going to blame individuals, I'm convinced this is a mentality thing throughout the squad.

Very true but to be fair to Usman he has played all but 57-58 overs of the 5 days. I am much more willing to cop it on the chin from him than someone like smith who dropped a handful with no real good reason. Not that Usmans is that great to be fair but still a half valid excuse. Poor Swepson though. The majority of Australia won’t have watched this and will look at those figures and think he is shit. But the questions been answered and he is well and truely at test level ability.

Love to sit here and slam the spinners but sadly poor old Swepson had zero luck

How many chances did he create that were dropped?

The Khawaja one was the worst of them all

Nah I'm not as forgiving as you. Swepson bowled 50+ overs alone in that 2nd innings, every fielder in world cricket is expected to catch that. I can't think of a reason why he wouldn't be ready to catch that, there was like 3 overs to go? That's when you should be the most ready, obviously.

He doesn't get excused because he batted well or because he's the QLD captain, every fielder should be catching that.

It does show there has been a drop in fielding standard in this side. There were like 6 dropped fetched and admittedly 2 or 3 were difficult but the others there is no excuse. Smith’s first two were shockers and resulted in the pair batting going another two-three sessions. That cost the game right there.

Plenty of finger pointing and hindsight analysis from just about everyone in Australia atm re why we couldn’t get it done.
We dropped a couple of important chances and probably didn’t bowl our best in that second innings but the bottom line, imo, is that it’s just so desperately difficult to ‘earn the right’ with the bat and then take the 20 wickets to win a test match over there in conditions like that, within five days.
On wickets like that, a seven day Test would probably be appropriate!
It’s virtually a complete ‘180’ from the type of test cricket we saw in the Ashes in our summer and our previous Ashes series in England, where things happen very quickly from ball one

A couple of things re that - fielding in 33 degree heat for that length of time is seriously tough, physically and mentally to be switched on and ready every ball.
Secondly, I reckon our guys who were fielding in catching positions found it quite tough to get their bearings. The carry to slips and even to the men around the bat to the spinners was so different to what you get in Australia.
