Battle of the Broncos' Buys

In 2008 we played our most expansive football since 1998 IMO. Lockyer and Wallace were in great form, Ennis was tearing it apart and working well, Hunt was at the back chiming in...IMO the 2008 season was the one that got away.

Apart from a couple of match winning plays I actually didn't think much of Lockyer's 2008.

And I don't know if 2008 was the one that got away...I reckon if we had of beaten Melbourne we still would've had problems with Manly in the grand final.

True we had a great spine but I thought our forward pack was pretty weak and our backline had problems too.

I'm glad you brought that up - I've often thought about this... strangely enough over the past 10 years, I don't think we've ever played Manly in any important/big game with something on the line. It would have been VERY interesting. Look - OBVIOUSLY if Manly played like they did on GF day then they would have been hard to beat... there is no denying that but you can't just say they would have won based on that performance... I can't see Brisbane letting a team put in 40 on GF day - let alone that 08 team as well.
I do agree it would have been the scariest GF the Broncos would have been involved in... but I think we would have got them. Too many big game players at the time and the way we were playing... seriously... definitely the one that got away IMO. (since 02)

Tallis and Laz btw... without a doubt if we're not including the return of Hodgo.

Tallis for me, watching the highlights at the Dragons game this year really nailed it home how good he was for us. That look in his eyes was just awesome.

I can't believe people would put someone like Israel Folau over Tallis.

We're just nominating players, Folau and Ennis wouldn't be my picks they just hadn't been mentioned.

Tallis & Harvey Howard.

I know Harvey was only with us for a year, but I think he was a great buy for us.

Gotta say that 5 x Premiership award winning 5/8 Kevvy Walters was an astute purchase as well.

Absolutely mrs long, kevvy has to be right up there...I reckon with lazo, tallis, campion, darren smith and Peter Jackson.
