Ben Hannant

Re: Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

Form is form regardless of being Origin or Club footy.

Re: Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

Lol the bhq hyperbole after a win is in full force.

hannant the best prop in the game?lol. As well as he played, matt Scott played better. And hell play that well next week, just like last week and the week before.

maybe if the broncos players did read bhq they'd play more like they did last night every week because they would see that simply pulling on a broncos jersey isn't enough (well at least for some of us on here).
No he wasn't. Hannant was better.

Remember that crucial mistake Scott made when he dropped the ball which allowed us to win? Hannant also made more metres while making 15 more tackles than Scott. On what basis did Scott play better?

Hannant made more metres made more tackles two less dropped balls and more offloads than Scott.on average over a year Scott is better but this year both he and tamou have been in poor form (no Payne?). On current form the games best props are hannant, woods and merrin. Thaiday might even be just ahead of Scott and tamou but I don't think so. I'm not saying they're worse players just in worse form.

When Hannant first returned, I thought he was one of our more disappointing players. Don't get me wrong, he was definitely an improvement on Tronc, Anderson, Dodds and Kenny but was he worth around 1/10 of our cap? Not in my opinion. I can only remember one game where he really stepped up for us and that was against the Bulldogs at Suncorp.

But then came 2012, and I honestly thought week in week out he was easily our best player of the season. Great work-rate and generally made some good metres for the likes of Parker, Glenn, Gillett & Te'o to weave their magic. He even added a nice passing game to his repotoire and added another dimension to our game that nearly snapped us out of our funk.

In 2013, he started the season a bit poorly, but since then he's been among our best and been one of the Broncos top 3. Best prop in the world? Gee...wouldn't go that far yet, there's plenty of good competition right there but he's definitely a worthy nominee and is definitely worth another contract.

I just hope his offsider, Thaiday continues building. He's been building but I don't know if it's enough to make him one of if not the highest paid player at the club.

Re: Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

The much maligned Peter Wallace was also excellent last night. As I have said ad nauseum, Wallace is a very clever and astute player who is let down by the poor lines run by his forwards and a general lack of creative and rehearsed ruck plays. Our plays are very simple and basic and allow multiple defenders to target our runners. it is a training park issue that reduces our 6,7 and 9 to be criticised week in , week out.
Wallace would be a sensation at the Storm with Bellamy's chess like orchestration. The cliched 'arm wrestle' like last night allows Wallace to shine because of his starch and durability, but he is much more than that.
Great gutsy performance last night against a team that relied ridiculously on a single point of attack.

Where is Ben Hannant's name mentioned here?

I can only imagine how upsetting it must be to see people praise Wallace, but there's no need to get your panties in a twist!
The posts were moved as a block from the Movements and Rumours thread into a new Ben Hannant one, including RBY's post...

On the basis that Scott is not a broncos player.

did you watch the game? every hitup scott did was huge. carrying defenders 5+ metres. busting out big runs when they were needed. hannant played a fantastic game, but scott was pretty much carrying his whole team.

what is the point in posting idiotic things like that?

Scott was awesome last night. I don't think that should overshadow how good Hannant was though. Tamou has been pretty poor this year.

I don't agree with AP that often (who does?) but he is absolutely right on this occasion. Thaiday, Glenn and Parker all 115m or more and gave Hannant excellent support. Nobody other than Tamou made more than 100m for the Cowboys and Scott was carrying the team. There were occasions where the Cows were really buried in their own half and Scott got them back to a neutral field position situation to ensure we weren't on the attack from the first tackle.

Hannant was fantastic last night and it was easily his best game of the season, and he has been very good for the last 3 games after a middling couple of seasons. Scott was fantastic last night and it is debatable if it was the best he's played this season after two seasons where he has been fantastics.

It's great that Hannant is doing well and AP is an idiot for thinking we shouldn't re-sign him, but there is no way that Hannant is better than Scott.

I dont think anyone is saying Hannant is better than Scott, they're saying he was better than Scott last night.

people saying hannant is the best prop in the world isnt saying that hes better than scott?

hannant made 1 more hitup than scott for 7 more metres. scotts metres per hitup was 9.7, hannants 9.5. scotts runs were better. scott broke 2 more tackles, made 1 less offload, made 1 more error (2 knock-ons to 0, 0 penalties conceded to 1). hannant made 16 more tackles, a huge 50 to a respectable 34.

watching the match i saw hannant doing more work in defence, but scott making far more damaging runs with the ball in hand.

Ive said it before, I don't know how Hannant can get through so much work when he looks like he weighs 150kg lol.

Definitely making up for his lack of form last year, things are looking good when McGuire and Hala get match fit.

I've been critical of hannant before too, but agree he is playing really well this year.

I'd still like to see him be able to get to his feet quicker and play the ball though.

He still takes a long time to do that.

Honestly didn't see the posts saying that till i went through the thread just now. One thing the stats won't show is the effort Hannant puts in when he's at marker, he's been doing it all year and always works extremely hard to get out of marker to put pressure on the kicker.

Hannant reminds me of a bowling ball. Scott a block of concrete.

Last night was a reminder of what Hannant can day when on his game, was a terrific allround performance but Scott puts in similar numbers every single week and is a lot more consistent. I would take Scott anyday over Hannant.
