Ben in hunt for Cronk's Origin role

Kevvie loves Hunt and if there is one bloke that can get the best out of him, it's him.

Don't bet your house on Hunt not being selected.

I can see Hunt jagging another selection off the bench should injuries arise. Unless his game improves dramatically that's the best he can ever hope for though.

he played what 8 mins in origin 3 ... and got paid 30k ... not bad for 8 minutes work

Nothing to be ashamed of at all if that ends up being the extent of his Origin career, but I'm sure we all hoped for more when he was carving the NRL up in 2014.

You are slipping into UB territory... nobody has any idea how Hunt will perform in a new system.

Some were suggesting that Widdop be brought in to partner Milf as he would compliment him, therefore he and Hunt should compliment each other fairly well.

He'll be playing behind a dominant pack, with a more seasoned half beside him and under a system that at the start of the year was leading the NRL in attack.

To write him off given what he was capable of in 2014 and 2015 is a bit ridiculous.

He was good in 2015 as well.

I think Cherry-Evans brilliant kick game sees him to halfback after Cronk. Nothing wrong with talking yourself up about wanting the opportunity though.

Not sure who UB is and I'm pretty sure the whole part where I say "unless his game improves dramatically" covers the rest of your post.

Hunt was a gun in nearly all games in 2015. After the gf he lost all confidence and has never been the same again. He is 27 and a new club is the best thing for him. The pressure he must feel every time he runs out in broncos jersey knowing we were seconds from the gf win and then to have a melt down for the next 18 months. Its tough for the bloke. But to think he got picked for qld, he should aspire to play for qld again but fuckin unlikely. He had a huge future at the broncs but one bad tackle and one dropped ball. He couldnhave been forgiven if he played to his potential last year. But he didnt instead of stepping up and making itnup to the fans and players he went into his shell. Thats character. A new club may save him if he plays well then it shows how weak he was not to get back up and fight for the broncs after losing. Locky is who they should all emulate. That's class

I don't think Ben hunt owes the fans nothing. If he was coasting through games, then maybe, but he's right up there in the tackle counts and chases hard on kick chases. The fact that he made those mistakes was down to an error in judgement from nerves playing in a grand final, not effort. Better players than him have done the same and worse players will coast successfully on the coat tails of greats and be called such.
Tackle counts and kick chases dont excuse poor form and I'm not suggesting such but they do show he tries. At the end of the day, that's all you can ask for as a fan. Coaches make the calls on form and ability and we criticise them for it, judge who should or shouldnt play, and the tactics they use, but we shouldn't expect our players to always play the way we want them to, theyre human with all the flaws and imperfections that go with it.

Hunt is far to inconsistent to be getting the money he is going to be paid at the Dragons. One week he is carving the raiders up and everyone on here is going crazy about how well he played and then the next game he is terrible and we are back to square one.

For the type of money he is getting I want consiatency 90% of the time with the odd average game not a good game then a bad one then a couple of average games then a repeat of the previous.

Good luck with that Ben..... Pity that even though you can be a pretty good runner and defender if you feel like it ... We need someone who can organize and guide a team around an opposition.... And have a reliability that your team mates ...we'll..can rely on, unfortunately that's not Ben Hunt yet.... We have better options for our legendary origin side... Sorry mate.

I agree to a point. I don't think anyone disagrees he puts in, but he still has issues there too. He's a massive confidence player, and that doesn't combine well when asking for consistency.

The club, and by extension the fans, employ him to do a job, and if he can't do it competently and consistently to the same standard as his competitors, we have every right to demand change, regardless of how hard he tries or how good a bloke he is.

I feel for the guy. He's had his career stunted by 4-5 seasons of playing off the bench and arguably out of position even after that, then throw in the GF demons. But when you see Cronk become the player he is through what seems to be 99% hard work and practice, you have to question why Hunt can't be a better player than he is.

Ben Hunt did not cost us the Grand Final. Our defence in the last minute of the game cost us the Grand Final.

I think all those things cost us the grand final, and it hurts more because it was the grand final and not some semi. But those same players that made those mistakes were the chief reason we got there in the first place. You hope some of them learn from it and get another chance to redeem them.
The cowboys that won were in a final before and lost. The years in between were spoken of very differently and the fans felt the team was building to from that loss. I feel we are too, but some of you seem more pessimistic. Players come and go, some of them never getting to a grand final, let alone winning. Others like Boyd are lucky enough to be in the right place, at the right time. We have the team capable, and whilst the storm look a shoo in, they did in 2006 as well.

Good one Ben !
You just gave the big 3 fuel to add to their fire . "Some blokes who need to move on "...
