OFFICIAL Ben Te'o Resigns

I get it is front and centre of the news cycle... and we know the media love the chance to jump on any excuse they can to paint us with a negative brush... But does anyone genuinely care Te'o has abruptly quit?

Personally if he isn't driving standards and excellence every single day then he can f*ck off.

In terms of on-field output we can't get any worse. Our players are self aware that tackling, line speed, scramble are all effort based metrics. Coach or no coach the benchmark is to replicate Friday night in Melbourne week on week as best as we can.

Which is more than fair.

The Origin period is a crucial period for us given the players we lose. We need all of our coaching staff completely focused on the Broncos.
Matt Ballin is still with the broncos and is with the qld team. No?

FFS can we go 5 ****ing minutes without some manchild associated with the club having a fit?

Your post is perfect and succinctly put, it's just the media making a mountain out of a molehill as they always do to drive clicks. The Broncos are the double dip: Our supporters will take an interest in whatever they're saying and if it's "negative" news, so will our haters.

Easiest gravy train in the world for these vultures.

Playing devil's advocate (because I've got no idea) but could those wins be because OF Te-o's defensive coaching?

Was his defence coaching that good?

64 points conceded in the finals series, the third most points conceded in the finals series in the NRL era. Storm in '99 and Bulldogs in '04 conceding more. Even in the run home towards the finals, we were conceding a lot of points.

Did we win the premiership because of our defence? Or because Walsh was hellbent on atoning for '23.

i think the biggest issue with Te’o leaving (if you believe what the media are saying) is that it sound like Teo was very close with the players. And acted like a bit of a middle man between Madge and the boys when Madge gets a little too much Madge. If true, and that’s a big if, it might show more cracks in the playing group if there is no conduit when Madge goes a little too hard.
Madge and teo come across as two blokes who are pretty set in their ways and I can see how they would clash. I think as long as everyone is buying into the Madge way of coaching we should be right, but **** there’s a lot of smoke around him at the moment and it’s starting to get a little concerning.

The discussion around our defence would be very different if we had held Melbourne to 8 points going into HT. That last try at the death soured the overall image, but it really was pretty good in the Melbourne game, and not bad in Round 1. The Parra game was the only one where it was legit terrible.

It's really important to have Ass coaches who can be effective conduits between the head coach and the group.
I'm hoping Madge doesn't take over as defence coach as well but he clearly wasn't on board with Teo.
Fair enough too . 66 points in 2 games is abysmal.
You'll find out a bit about Teo in the next week or 2 when we'll see if he tries to tear the club down with media leaks although I'd expect he's been asked to sign an NDA.
I'd imagine there's potentially a "you cant sign for another club this year" as well or something??

Similar to Lomax

CONEHEAD basically said they have their staff tonight. That is not ruling out him going as a "consultant" later on. We will see.

To be fair I would imagine a big part of it is the origin assistant role and tbh Teo has every right to get his back up. Matt Ballin is a current assistant for both teams.

You cant have favouritism. He has every right to say no but you can't let one bloke go and the other not. That is weird to me.

So there was all these whispers of him not being happy last year (that have only come out today), and he was so unhappy he either signed a new deal or committed to stay, despite Titans being keen after we won the GF?

Seems fishy that he didn't jump ship when he had the chance if he was so pissed off at Madge last year.

On the Ballin thing, Im sure that would have been hard for Te'o to cop if he got told no but Ballin was still involved. However, I don't think its outrageous for Madge and the club to have said, sorry mate, we already have Matty leaving for camp thats been agreed/known/contracted for a while, we can't lose another coach for Origin on short notice. And lets say that was his breaking point, go to the Tits in the off season then?

you also can't afford to lose two assistant coaches to origin during a traditionally tough period for the club

I agree sort of. They would cope but it would not be ideal. Still think its shit. Madge has had his fingers in alot of pies also when he was an assistant. You would think he would understand. Plus it could benefit them. He might come back a better coach.

They have assistants for assistants these days. I think the benefits outweigh the negatives in the long run.

If anything this might be a good thing going forward. As has been alluded to, Te'o was not Madge's appointment. At least he gets to bring in one assistant of his own choice.

You cant just give up all your coaching staff for origin either.

I think Kevvie did that one year where just about everyone was off coaching origin and we went like shit.

I think Ballin was doing it before Madge got there, so he was already an incumbent
