OFFICIAL Ben Te'o Resigns

Who was the lady in there firing off ragebait questions??... looking for a gig in Sydney with those kinds of questions haha
My guess is Jelisa Apps. Ch 7 Journo and has a spot with Jimmy Smith on SEN.

What did civo say? Ive gotta say, the media are making out like the old boys are against the broncos but I have never seen them more united behind the club outside of CONEHEAD and walters. Thaiday, civo, thorn, Langer, lockyer, hodges, parker, hunt.

Basically said winning is the only way to stop the critics. But had a smile, a grin and a wink 100% sent Gordies way!

Joey interviewed him after the win in Melbourne.

100% this IMO.

Also, I know someone who has had firsthand dealings with Teo outside of footy and his personality definitely matches what people have been saying. "Strong" can be one nice way to put it.

I read somewhere that Hodgo (Justin Hodges) came out publicly saying he would pick up the phone if called and help the Broncos because he loves them so much. May not be a defence coach but if he was Ballin's eyes and ears on the field, he would be an amazing motivator & messenger I reckon.

Also, loved what Petero said in the sheds after Melbourne. One bloke who was hard as nails and professionally stood up to CONEHEAD' comments (who is a Bronco in history and a current Titan).

I can't see the Broncos hiring someone to be an assistant that has no football involvement at the moment and last time they did in 2025 Souths came 10th.

He's done some work at Redcliffe in 2021 helping Mogg and a year at Souths in 25 helping Hunt.

That's not a lot to go on.

Justin Hodges comments:

“I’m busy with work at the moment but if the club needed my help this year, most definitely,” Hodges said.

“I love the Broncos and rugby league is my life, so I would never say no to helping them out.

“They’ve got to make sure the next person they bring in for the blue shirt can handle the spotlight for the rest of the year.”

I don't think I'm wrong in saying that when a new coach joins a club he usually brings his 'team' with him. A coach leaving a club for whatever reason usually means the end of the road for his support team. So, having said all of that, I reckon Ben Te'o and Trent Barrett were a little fortunate that Madge honoured whatever agreement Kevvie had made by keeping them on the team. To start throwing crap at the coach doesn't look good on your resume and is pretty rich when you could have been out of a job over 12 months ago.

I wonder if the parra game was a sticking point with Madge.

That left edge didn't look like they knew each other... when Gos goes down Aublix moves into second row... and we concede like 3 tries in 10mins... I think Ezra was a bigger issue in defence compared to Aublix... but at some point after halftime Xavier moved into the backrow and I think the tries on that edge started drying up.

Following week against storm Xavier is starting in the back row and Aublix doesn't even get on the field

If Hodgo is a temporary solution, I can’t imagine he would need to do much.

Just relay whatever message Ballin and Maguire tell him and give the players a rev up. He was a good leader when he was playing.

Obviously you find someone more suited for the permanent role, but as a stop gap, he could do in a pinch regardless of his lack of experience.

It looks like Sydney have been hyping Teo to the max at the moment... but 1910 picked up that defence for his Redcliffe teams were poor.

Throughout last year broncos defence was poor and we won the comp with the 7th best defence ... that is near unheard of... it is rare for the premiership winner to not be top 2 - 4 in points conceded over the year.

I think the praise for Teo from the broncos (i.e. players, etc.) is that he's a hype man.

Walsh talking about Teo was all about the constant reps for goal line defence... Teo with the blue shirt out there yelling at the guys on the field, etc.

To me that feels like a man manager type of coach... when I've heard Teo in his interviews it seems like that's his MO more so than being a calm speaker that can talk to the tactics of the game (unlike when you listen to Ciraldo, Ivan, etc.).

There was an article on BHQ about comparing to Peter Ryan or something ... and it seemed like it was all about scramble defence and effort areas... those aspects are hugely important in league, but you only have to look at penrith to understand how important it is for a team to be footy smart.

Penrith, storm and rorters have been the best tactical teams over the last decade or so, and they are perennial top 4 teams.

That is where the broncos should be and I'm not sure effort areas and man manger coaches get you there.

I've not seen too much of Ballin in interviews, but his demeanour on the field from his playing days screamed as someone that was far more calm than Teo was... and he also came through Dessie's systems, which were peak during the 2010's when league fully turned modern footy.

I think Ballin ends up a better coach than Teo ... and Manly being as shit as they currently are is a concern, because the old boys are pushing to get him back.

Phil Gould has weighed in on the Madge/Te'o situation.

Basically, what's happened between Madge and Ben having a disagreement is common among coaching staff's and ultimately what the coach says goes, he's the one that makes the call, not the assistants.
Exactly, Phil Gould is the only sane voice I have heard on this. Fox pushing Te'o has principals bla bla is nonsense. He is a guy who walks away when he doesn't see things his way. So I am glad a guy who couldn't buy in is gone. We don't want yes men, but we don't need I know better men. Especially a guy who couldn't win his QLD cup GF and has never coached NRL. He is actually on an apprenticeship at this level and should have worked out when the coach makes his call, you buy in and get the message across to everyone else.

From the outside looking in Trent and Madge seem to work well together. Their interactions in the box always seem very genuine. Trent ain't a good head coach but he always seems to do well in the assistant coach seat.

I don't think you need to win it, Ballin came second last when he coached Manly's Cup side.
