I knew you would eventually come around to my way of thinking. Failure to do so would have been punishable by sitting in a small room with Tom, Rover and lockeysillegitimatechild for not less than 1 hour, listening to them extol all the virtues and blessings of Bennettism and the Wayne Bennett system. Some would say a fate worse than death. I would just say lucky you came around to my way of thinking. The coaching director role for Wayne is one I like a lot
We don't know what's happening behind the scenes though
But if they have decided on a rookie and that rookie is available next year, I'm not against that transition for 2019
If they haven't though, and they use 2019 to identify and recruit the right person, then I equally have no problem with that
Seriously though, I never thought of it until Phil Gould mentioned it. But I'm still trying to guess what his game is. Trying to pressure the club into re-signing Bennett, trying to pressure the club into sacking him (and thus, having the usual suspects on this forum throw fits) or just being honest. I doubt he is just being honest. To have him in some kind of coaching director role would be covering all the bases.
No coach will sign on with WB as “coaching director”.
Why would they?
How do they run the team; without WB putting his oar in? For example if the new coach wants to get rid of Boyd, how does he do that with WB hanging around?
Talks about awkward.
Once WB goes as head coach; he needs to go away and let the new coach do his job; without WB looking over his shoulder.
Yeah, I'm not sure what exactly "a coaching director" does but I presume it's hands off enough to allow a rookie coach to drop Boyd even if it does piss off Bennett.
