NEWS Bennett turns up heat on Broncos

We still play like hot garbage most of the time, and scrape by on individual brilliance. I agree we've done well, but not as well as we should. That's the crux of my point- it's up to Bennett to fix, I'm happy to give him the chance.

I agree with that, but we are playing with a lot of talented, but still relatively junior players in key positions. Many iof them need time to learn to play with consistency at NRL.

I agree as most do we need an improved halves combination mostly and many of the observed ‘problems’ will disappear. In the meantime, we should take some enjoyment out of consistently season across season, being a top 8 team...

Beats the alternative, sure.

But the fact is, despite those results (which some how feel like a fluke, even if there is some method to the madness) you could hardly call us a good football team. It has been frustrating to watch us, week in, week out, for years now.

Surely you can understand that nothing short of a premiership can heal the '15 wounds.

Have heard Michael Maguire being mentioned, his preference is to remain in Sydney, which may complicate things with a couple of Sydney clubs getting itchy feet. Brisbane will have to make a call sooner rather than later. The board want a high profile, proven coach. He does appear to tick a lot of boxes.

He’s coach NZ full time fairly sure.

I hope not , just shows our lack of pull these days. Our board needs to shape up , very disappointing as a fan.

Maguire is shit. He’ll burn our team out.

Keep Wayne on until he wants to retire/ we find the right pick (which isn’t available at the moment). Bennett is still the best coach in the game all things considered, just look at the way our pack has evolved with the kids coming through. Just need a half, which we had until Taylor went back on his word to sign an over the top contract.

Edit: it’s starting to look like JD taking over with Wayne in a Gould type role is the best way to go. JD could be anything as a coach.

Just like Bennett with England. He said he will coach NRL team if a vacancy comes up. Would prefer Toovey though

But he comes from Manly. That shit stain doesn't wash off - no thanks.

Everyone knows that Hook is Gus' puppet. He sacked Cleary because Cleary didnt want to listen to him anymore and he will sack Hook if Hook disagrees with him too.
I agree... thats why it works. We’d just need to find a hook-type puppet who could grow into a great coach (not hook, he only has the first part down pat).
Then again, i doubt ANYONE could be as persistent and over bearing as gould is anyway after hearing his commentary bs

The ONLY reason the Broncs are looking at someone else is because of Bennett's age, it isn't like they are forcing him out the door. There is absolutely no need to panic buy on a coach. Bellamy became available, made sense to chase the number two (younger) coach in the game since the Broncs already had the number one, just with age as a massive issue.

Well that isn't the case according to Bennett. I can't remember the exact wording but if he didn't state it explicitly, he strongly suggested that he wants to carry on past this current contract.

He and the club have had a great run but everything must come to an end. As is, the team looks further away from a premiership than it has in quite a while.

Unless Boyd and Bird suddenly find form, all the young forwards kick on to adequately cover the loss of Thaiday and decline of other veterans in the pack and most importantly, the clubs finds a decent halfback somewhere, the next 2 or 3 years aren't looking good. The time to get rid of Bennett is now. A rookie coach next year with Bennett supervising him in a directors role and then see how things progress from there. This is the only logical option.

I actually agree with you mostly. I was not really for Bennett coming back in the first place and I also don't have the confidence in him that I used to pre-departure. I do think he'll get the side to the finals but they just don't have the ability to go the extra level required that a Souths / Panthers / Storm can and that inbalance in the squad is purely down to Bennett and the recruitment / retention team.

I also would love for Bennett to go into a supervising role and also think it is the best option, but I don't think it is the only logical option. The guy could well coach until he is 75 for all we know but in any case, he could still likely go for another two to three years in his role if need be.

I certainly don't think (as others, not necessarily you) that as suggested, he needs to be or even is being pushed out the door. The best available and younger coach was seemingly available, it makes absolute sense to chase him. He is no longer available, so there is still time to choose the next best option, even if that is a rookie coach.

The two logical factors in this choice are - 1. Do NOT panic buy and 2. Do NOT push Bennett out the door completely, he still has PLENTY to offer in a mentoring / welfare role.

So your basic position is:
1. don't "panic buy". Do you think the head office is that incredibly incompetent as to not have identified several possible condidates?
2. Don't completely sever ties with Bennett. I.e. pretty much precisely as I said.

That's fine. What annoys me is the fact you are basically, merely agreeing with me but you get several "likes" and I get absolutely none! Is it because you are a moderator? You run a very tight ship. Who can I speak to about becoming a moderator? I will get many likes on every post I make or lots of people will be getting banned!!!

Haha ! It's not a popularity contest mate , i don't get many likes either but could care less. Sometimes you will rub people up the wrong way but that's all with the territory of a forum , especially sports. Everyone has their favorite players and oppinions.

Well I "like" your posts. Maybe you need to be more ruthless with people who don't, just like "Sproj".
