Best fullback you have seen play the game? OLD footage and watching replays don't count. So for example I've only seen Gary Belcher on the highlight reels and old footage so I can't select him.

Mine's Lockyer, obviosuly. Without a DOUBT the best fullback I've seen play the game. Kids these days might think Billy and Hayne are awesome (and there is no doubt about that either) but its a shame they never got to see Locky play in his era. The 97-03 era of him at fullback the best footy I've ever seen anyone play. He was like a knife through butter that guy. Just listen to some of the highlights during that time - the commentators are always going on about how he "carved" and "sliced" teams up. Linking up with wingers on kick return was genius and something I've never seen repeated to his standard again to this date.

Oh and for the record, I think he's a better FB than 5/8. In saying that I agree that you can't not mention his 5/8th role for the Broncos either. Both cannot be ignored - but he should go down as the greatest 1 not greatest 6.

Whose yours?

I saw Locky play fullback, but unfortunately I can't remember how well he played...

But If I had to choose one, I'd choose Matty Bowen or Rhys Wesser. I agree Lockyer 47- Everyone goes on about how good Slater and Hayne are, and yes, I admit, they are good, but definitely can't go past Wesser and Bowen.

Lockyer is easily the best I have seen and of a great bunch of the rest Minichiello, Slater, Mullins, Brasher and Hunt are all superb fullbacks in their own right at different times of their careers but none of them come close to what Lockyer had as a fullback.

Agree completely.

Lockyer was a phenomenal player in his prime at fullback.

He was brilliant. He just pwned them all.

I wish there was a youtube highlight reel of his days at FB. I can hardly remember them.

Yeh you almost completely forget about it until you see it. I've got some 2001 origin highlights and it is without a doubt the best I've seen him play. He was at his peak then (01-02). Both years we made the prelim. Both harsh losses but that is footy!

Lockyer is head and shoulders above any fullback in my lifetime.

Except Paul Hauff. That guy was really tall.

/bad pun

Locky is easily the best I've seen, and probably ever will see.

Lockyer by a mile. im glad that when he was in his prime it was probably also the time when i loved rugby league more than ever, made watching it all that more enjoyable.

the other notable mentions are of course billy slater, and matt bowen. those 2-3 seasons where bowen was on top of his game were just incredible. he rivalled lockyer there, no doubt about it. slater, well ask me again in 5 years time and i think itll be a much harder question to answer.

5yrs time i think we will take of slater same way we do Bowen now. "yeh he was good for those 2-3yrs"

Yep. I reckon if Slater has a serious injury he'll never be the same again. Just like Bowen and Minichiello's careers went downhill after serious injuries.

i really dont think any player these days will hold on as long as Lockyer has and still keep some form. to many Young blokes comming thru and blowing them away.

Bowen? Yeh I mean he DID have those killer couple of seasons but he was found out in origin pretty big. In saying THAT he wasn't really given much of a chance at no. 1 AND we had some uber shit teams back then. Don't think he rival-ed Locky at all to be honest.

If anything I thought Mini is worth a mention at the peak of his career. A diff style of FB to Locky admittedly but Mini had his own thing going on. The whole power FB with pace was pretty good stuff.

I think Slater deserves a mention - he may never reach that high of a status in comparison but he's got a fair bit to go yet. He definitely has come a long way. Compared to Locky and Mini he has too many flaws IMO.

I would have to agree Lockyer is the best I have seen, followed by Gary Jack (yes showing my age)
