Best players never to play Origin or Test

Cleary is a Manly junior, admittedly I think it's fair enough that he didn't play any Origin or Tests but he was a very handy player who enjoyed a nice long career.

Centre was a tough position to pick for and unless I was going back pre-NRL era I find it hard to argue with the two Bman came up with. I have different picks for the #9 (Aaron Payne or Nathan Friend) and 13 (Glenn Morrison) but for the most part I think it's fairly spot on.

Looking at that team B-man, I'm surprised Davico and Thompson never made it into the NSW side... guess it's because they played the game when NSW were much stronger and had a bit of depth.

But still, they're two players that were seemingly around forever, so it's surprising - to me at least.

Nathan Hindmarsh deserves a mention as a "should have played rep footy his entire career"

If he was Qld'er he would have filled that Dallas Johnson mould and actually shown some pride in the jersey unlike the neck tatt grub squad they've decided to run with for the future.

If Alan Tongue was a QLDer he would have played a 1000 origins.

I think Alan Tongue just got pumped up a bit because he was always just on the outer, so he kind of had that whole 'underrated', 'unfairly overlooked' vibe going about him. much the same way as people jumped on the Nathan Merritt or Bryce McGain bandwagon over the years ...

he was a decent toiler but it was fair enough that he never got to play Origin. he wasn't as good as Johnson and he wasn't any near as good as the majority of blokes who played for NSW ahead of him

Luke Stuart (especially when NSW quite happily picked nuffies like Brett White and Josh Perry)
Gavin Cooper
Nathan Friend

Fensom will play Origin IMO

Fensom should play Origin ... 'will' seems like a risky choice of words considering past selection policies. he might have to wait until Gallen and Watmough are past it before he gets serious looks from the NSW selectors

Present players who might in the future but haven't yet and maybe should have or are still running around:

Feleti Mateo
John Sutton
Ben Barba
Josh McGuire
Nathan Friend

What about the opposite, players who played but probably shouldn't have.

Aiden Tolman is an unlucky one to miss out. you prob wouldn't take him now but considering some of the dud props NSW have had in the last 3 years he is definitely a touch unlucky not to have made it yet

He isn't even 25, it's not exactly too late.
I think the real problem is that he's a hard worker but doesn't make the same impact as players who do less. Plus NSW's rotation is terrible.

Robbie Farah should have played way more Origins. One of the biggest poor calls by selectors during the last 8 years.
Yeah, stupid NSW selectors thought Ennis was better because he pisses other players off.

Latter list is easy for QLD

Stagg, McGuire and kelly to name a few

Although he played a single Origin game for in which he covered himself in glory I nominate Danny Nutley? If given the chance much earlier in his career, some three years previous to his lone Origin appearance ,would have become a fixture for Queensland and along with Webcke would have formed one of the most mobile front row pairings for Australia . Covers head ready for flak.

Aaron Payne without doubt IMO. If not for a certain C.Smith being around, Payne wouldve been the long term QLD hooker.

Sproj's list would be extremely easy

Ben Cross, Brett White, Steve Turner, Anthony Quinn, Antonio Kafusi

Ahead of Cameron Smith and other great players in the QLD team? I doubt it. Unfortunatley for Tongue he always had strong competition for spots. He was a very good player in his day though winning the Dally M captain and lock of the year in 2008.
