Not sure if it has already been done, but would anyone be interested in putting together their thoughts on creating their best ever Qld Origin side 1 -17.

One proviso is respecting other posters selections.

Not much else I can do at the moment so looking to kill some time.

Simple enough!

couldnt really go with any side that didnt have slater thurston lockyer smith and cronk in it rest would be up for debate imo but those surely makke up everyones spine/14

I'll have a quick go. Going to keep it to 2000 and onwards, as I was too young prior to 2000 to properly remember performances, etc.

After I put up the post I thought how hard it was going to be, in my case I have been following it since 1980 and there are a lot of top class players you have to leave out eg, the spine I came up with was Lockyer, Wally, Alfie and Smith, leaving out Thurston and Cronk was difficult.

Thanks for your response

An interesting follow up, who of the current crop would be in discussions for best ever side once they are done?

I would suggest the ones on the trajectory currently are Munster, Carrigan, Tino, Grant, Hunt (as a 14) for future all time discussion, not saying of course they would make it in.

Some potentially great kids coming through too but WAY too early of course to throw them in.

What about an all time worst side?

I reckon only Tino and Carrigan tbh if they keep progressing. Munster has JT, Wally and Locky in front of him probably. Hunt i think would be behind Cronk at 14 although its probably the most debatable right now. When you have Cam Smith at 9 it kind of rules out any other contender in that position.

One player you could add, and he has only just sprung to mind with me and i would have picked him instead of Folau if i thought more, and i'm surprised others havent as well, is Gagai on the wing. He's probably the best Queensland Origin winger i've seen.

All fair points except about Cronk at 14. Hunt and Berrigan are streets ahead of him. I know he would be in the discussion because of who he is but he isn't a patch on those two.

No room for a walter lewis?

I dont reckon Hunt has been as consistently good coming off the bench as Cronk was up until the last couple of years, where he has been excellent. If i had my Broncos hat on, i think i'd pick Berrigan but i dont think he had the same kind of impact for Queensland as he did at the Broncos even if he did have the same versatility.

14 is a difficult one because Hunt has been mainly used as hooker rotation where Cronk was more used as a forward coming off the bench. It would all depend on what you wanted as a bench player. I was actually toying with the idea in my side of just putting in another forward as you dont really need a hooker rotation option if you have Cameron Smith there.
