Yes because throwing young halfbacks in the deepend over an experienced halfback before they are really ready has always produced the longterm results hasn't it, right Ben Walker and Brett Seymour? And thats assuming that Hunt did anything last season to actually warrant displacing Wallace as starting halfback, which he didn't. I'm all for developing Hunt from the bench for the future, but his not ready to displace Wallace just yet.

I love how people are Quick to point out 2 failures yet ignore the numerous success stories..

If theres one area the Broncos have struggled to develop their own talent its definitely in the halves, Lewis and Langer were already big name players before they came to the club and the Broncos can't claim them as being their developed players and outside of Lockyer and Kevin Walters(and I'm being generous with Walters because he came from the Raiders with first grade experience) the Broncos have struggled to be able to develop the required standard of playmaking 5/8th's or halfback's that has led them to real success.

Why else do you think the Broncos needed to move Lockyer back to 5/8th? its because they clearly didn't have the talent to lead the side around in playmaking, its definitely the area of development they have struggled. Seymour and Walker both crumbled under the pressure of being thrown in with high expectations before they were truely ready, something I don't want to see happen to Hunt, I would rather see Hunt developed similar in line with Lockyer's development between 1995-1996 which saw him playing from the bench and filling in the halves when needed, building up his confidence and experience.

I agree with GCBRONCO. In my opinion there is no rush to have Hunt in the Team. He can fill in around origin time get some experience then and whenever injuries occur maybe fill a spot on the bench.

For now with everyone fit i dont see a place for him in the team.

Scott Prince? Berrick Barnes?

I agree with you GC (surprise surprise).

gUt - You do realise it took until 2005 before Prince became an out and out good NRL standard halfback? For years it seemed destined that he'd be the guy who didn't live up to the potential he displayed when he was younger.

Barnes was never a good NRL player.

I'd say both those players showed more natural talent than Hunt did at his age. Don't get me wrong, Hunt has the capacity to become a good player but Henjak is going to have to be patient with him. I don't think we'll see him make a real fist at halfback until 2012.

In saying, Wallace definitely needs to step his game up. I don't think Pete will ever be a great player like a Johns or a Langer but he's definitely got enough talent to make it as a good first grade halfback. I just hope now that he's had his operation that he can step up.

Scott Prince was already a star in the making at the Cowboys and arguably probably their first biggest star to come from their development system, we weren't the only club interested in him and it was largely our profile and pockets that got him here, what he achieved here(which I will grant was hampered by injuries) can't be compared to elsewhere because he didn't deliver on his potential and as for Barnes, exactly what of note did he achieve at the Broncos? Doing well in Rugby is one thing, doing it in league is another, I'm not saying he couldn't but you can't suggest his a success story at his time at the Broncos because he has done well in Union.

Exactly Big Pete, my concern here is that a lot of fans have this belief that because Wallace struggled last season we should give up on Wallace(and I'm with you this is the season he needs to step up his game, but he should at least be given the opportunity early in the season to do so)and throw Hunt in the deep end which brings a lot of risks to the development of Hunt as a playmaker for the future especially if he doesn't live upto the expectations being placed on him to instantly provide. I'd rather see Hunt given the opportunity to steadily improve his game and gain experience before placing him in such a key position, one that I don't think his ready at present for, that can change should a valid need arise but for now is there?
