I voted Lockyer but all deserve it. Maybe 3 co-captains. I thought Locky edged out Tallis and Langer only because he has really stamped himself as the undisputed test captain for a such long period (6-7 years, i think) and is undoubtedly the greatest captain in the NRL at present and for the last 5 years. Tallis and Langer both struggled, albeit not to Broncos fans, to outshine other captains in their respective eras

great point actually

Langer...I'm shocked Locky has polled so well...Even further shocked that Tallis is thought of in the same catagory as Locky and Langer...and well I fell off my chair when I saw Hancock got a vote...ROFL

Why don't you rate Tallis as a captain?

I do rate Tallis as an excellent captain, but just would not have had him with-in coooeee of the other two. Have no problems with him being voted for as we are looking for peoples opinions just amazed he would take 6 votes from Langer and lockyer, is all.

It took a while but looks like the right decision will be forthcoming.

Amazed Locky is creaming this poll. Don't get me wrong, great captain. But surely Alf deserves some love for his 4 premierships in 7 years as captain!

Honestly, Tallis helping the 2003 Broncos to the finals is a way bigger achievement than Alf winning premierships in the 92-93 teams IMO.

Is that a bait? The Broncos led the comp at the halfway mark of the 2003 comp and then didn't win any of their last 7 matches and were lucky to stay in the 8.

Might not be the best example, but definitely not baiting.

I just think Tallis led the worst Broncos teams in history, while Langer led the best. Therefore, a little tough judging them on premierships as captain alone IMO.

one thing that separates alfie is how much confidence he had in himself and the team. how often did you see alfie say 'we'll take the 2 points'? never. lockyer and co took the 2 pretty much like clockwork.

Fair enough, though I don't judge them on premierships alone. As I said, I also look at the form of the individuals with the C. Tallis was always Tallis, he didn't really lift himself as captain and in fact his career was on decline from the time he hurt his neck (sadly).

Lockyer has always been Lockyer. I think his form was at its peak in 2001 when he inherited the captaincy temporarily due to Tallis's injury, but wasn't because of the captaincy.

Langer went from a good player to a superstar in 1992 and was the dominant halfback of the era. And much of that was due to the captaincy IMO.

Langers team knew they could put the 6 on thou, Now for Locky its a time where you almost have to take any points you see. Forgetting teams like the Rabbits and Roosters. Alot of todays team are closer so now 2 points could win it.

and Langers captaincy was a big reason for that confidence in themselves. even when we werent the dominant team of the competition we would still 'tap and go' instead of taking the easy 2 points.

Oh i do agree the things Langer could do would make any team go for 6. But Langer also had an awesome side to work with.

How much of that had to do with Langer looking to one side and seeing Renouf, Sailor et al. and the nodding from the coach. And how much of that had to do with Lockyer looking to the side and seeing Kelly, Minto and Leon Bott and thinking "well, why the f*ck not".

Different sides are coached different ways and play different styles.
