I don’t get the love for McSweeney, especially at T20 level. Only 2 good innings in his career. Serviceable, yes, but match winning come finals time, I’m not so sure.

Definitely not a to rave about t20 batsman. His game is built around classical strokes and top technique. Pretty sure he averaged up towards 30 not bad for a bloke who is not even remotely an aggressive oriented batsman. Great fielder and handy bowler sure in a team like today when batting class is low he isn’t going to be overly valuable but when you got the star players like your Munro’s, Billings, Khawaja’s he acts as good balance and an accumulator. But when those blokes are out regardless of whether he was in the team before or not when they are gone he will be in the side regardless so not really a problem the heat can fix.
All of a sudden today instead of being an accumulator he had to become a star player and when your 1 off a fair few you do stupid shit. I agree, I doubt there is a future where Nathan McSweeney is a top quality batsman at t20 level. But when you lose your 4 biggest stature batters and your bowling lineup is star studded there is only so many more players who can be match winners.

Thats probably a fair call. Think some of these other teams with lesser attacks and not so awesome batting won’t be anywhere as near dominant as Perth were over us though. As much as the narrative was that Scorchers were ‘under par’ we were probably realistically just short of par and they ended up over par. For about 34 overs of that game batting was hard going and it only really became easier because Hobson became borderline cat like with the amount of lives he had.

I find its fun to watch the BBL game to game, but due to all the Test players and international players being in and out, its hard to really appreciate the comp and the overall winners as a whole.

He is good with a decent hitter up the other end, if you are relying him to strike at 200 with a few overs to go it's probably not happening.
