Boyd snaps Achilles - Replacement?

Yep, it was my bad.

I linked the RSS Feed we've got set up, as opposed to the actual website.

Regardless, it's good news.

Rushing to make the QLD side, what a guy.

If he does make it back by round 13, that is 5th of June. State of Origin starts May 27 so he will miss it by a few days. But sure, what a guy right?

from the first line of the article

"DARIUS Boyd has given the Broncos and Maroons a huge boost with the injured backline star outlining his plan to return ahead of schedule for next year’s State Of Origin series"

You would think that people would be tired of the pot shots and snide comments at Boyd by now, but then I guess it is easy to underestimate some peoples pettiness.

Until the guy does something in recent times that is worth criticising how about we all just cut the bullshit?

Still surprised people expect Boyd to be good if he returns early.

I can't recall anyone actually coming back that soon. Particularly when Boyd has played so little since 2013.

You should probably read past the first line..

Bottom line is to come back when he is 100%. I would actually rather not have him play State of Origin as it is a detriment to the Broncos. Too many athletes fool themselves and come back before they have healed up. Remember Lockyer coming back before his knee was tip top and it set him back. Kobe with the Lakers was the same last year. When we help rehab people ( I own a training business) it is all about taking one step forward at a time. Shortcuts only lead to further damage.

Darius Boyd recovering quicker than expected

DARIUS Boyd has not given up hope of finding his biological father, but the Broncos star has revealed the search he began late last year has “for the time being” been postponed.

It is the sort of decision Boyd admits would have caused him great consternation in years past.

“But I am comfortable leaving that for now. I have plenty of other things in my personal life that I need to continue to work on and then I have a professional life to start thinking about too,” Boyd said with a short laugh.

“Having just got back into footy after a long time away — a long time for me anyway — to just get that taste of it before getting injured … I just realised how much I miss it and how much I love the game and love being in that team environment.

“I was loving being back at the Broncos too and just at the moment I am trying to make sure I keep that enthusiasm and don’t let the disappointment of getting injured get me down and feeling sorry for myself.”

Judging by the progress of Boyd’s recovery in the six weeks since he ruptured his achilles tendon during one of the heaviest conditioning sessions in Brisbane’s pre-season training schedule. In the past, such an injury has seen players sidelined for a minimum of nine months, with many spending a year or more in rehabilitation.

Boyd is tracking to be back on the playing field inside of six months, with the club’s medical team this week removing his “moon boot”, which Boyd has worn since surgery.

“It is my first major injury so I am just doing what the specialist tells me I can. I am not trying to push myself beyond the boundaries I am given but I have made sure I am doing every little thing I can to ensure my recovery time is as short as possible,” Boyd said.

Publicly Boyd is reticent to put a definitive timeframe on his likely return to the NRL. However, it is understood he is looking at a comeback in early May — leaving him time enough to prove his fitness and form to Queensland’s Origin selectors.

As much as he treasures the chance to wear the Maroons jersey, it is his first match back in Broncos colours which he says is driving his return.

“Like I said I wasn’t back among the boys long but I was there long enough to realise what a special club this is and what a special group Wayne (Bennett) has put together here,” Boyd said.

“It feels like I am home — that’s how I feel being back … like I have come home.”

Onya Darius. Can't wait to see you pull on a Broncos jersey again. It would be absolutely awesome to have him back in early May, which would be before round 10 if my maths is about right (it usually isn't)

Happy for him that his injuries are healing quicker than expected.

Can't wait, really hope he comes back and doesn't take long to get back to his best.

The old saying, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. I was the first on the witch hunt when Boyd was signed and Barba released.

But I can really see now what we will miss out on without Boyd's stability at the back and having to rely on an unknown quantity (like Barba) in Kodi Nikorima, Kahu or Maranta as fullback for the opening rounds next year.

Not sure if it's been said anywhere, but it was said on NRL 360 last night that Boyd is well ahead of schedule, planing a return in early June, full contact training in ~5 weeks or so.

He and his wife are also expecting their first child, which is good news from the mental side of things for Darius I think. Hodges turned a corner (In terms of off-field issues) when he got married and had a kid, let's hope Darius is the same.

BRONCOS coach Wayne Bennett says Darius Boyd is on track for a “remarkable” ahead-of-schedule NRL return from injury. The Broncos recruit has ramped up his involvement at training in recent weeks and is likely to be available for selection inside the six-month time frame initially laid down when he suffered a serious Achilles injury in pre-season.
Bennett was full of praise for Boyd and his application to his rehab program, saying his dedication levels were on par with the greatest players he has ever coached.
“He’s been remarkable,” Bennett said.

Darius Boyd is close to returning“He’s such a dedicated athlete and it’s a credit to him.

“He’s on track to come back before the six months at the moment and that’ll be a miracle in itself.
“It’s just a case of when. He’s doing everything now and it’s just a bit more time.”
Boyd and the Broncos had circled the round 13 clash with Manly as the Queensland Origin star’s return date, but his comeback is now likely to be brought forward.
But nothing about the 27-year-old’s progress comes as a surprise to Bennett, who believes Boyd’s teenage years spent at the Broncos around the likes of Darren Lockyer have clearly rubbed off on him.
“He’s as good a player as I’ve ever coached in his application to everything,” Bennett said.
“Locky was outstanding in that regard as well.
“You’ve got to understand, Darius came here as a young man and was influenced by all that.
“He was 18 and Locky and them were at the heights of their playing (career). He’s smart, he always learns off people.”

The rehab is better than on track by the looks.

Maybe he'll be a surprise addition against Parra?

Good news but I do hope they err on the side of caution with respect to a comeback date.

Bringing him back early (and underdone) will likely hinder more than help in the grand scheme of things.
