Boyd snaps Achilles - Replacement?

With Boyd out of action for 6 months, we are lucky we have time on our side to get things prepared for next year! Should Wayne go with - Hodges, Milford, Eden, Nikorima, Kahu? At the back...

We go from a team of fullbacks who sign another fullback that we didnt need, to releasing all the other fullbacks to put all our eggs in one basket, to now losing said fullback and having no fullbacks lol. epic lols are being had right now.

Milford HAS to be fullback now. He won't be, because then Bennett will look rightly stupid when he kills it yet he moves him to 5/8th when boyd returns.

Well... that sucks, at least it happened before Christmas so someone has ages to train at Fullback and Boyd has plenty of time to get right before 2016.

A) Milford to fullback, Taylor to Five-Eighth
B) Hodges to fullback, Copley to centre, Kahu to wing
C) Hodges to fullback, Copley to centre, Maranta to wing
D) Kahu to fullback
E) Eden to fullback
F) K.Nikorima to fullback

IMO Hodges not an option, too weak defensively and under the high ball.

At the moment the fullback options are:

Nikorima
Eden
Milford
Maranta
Hodges.

If I were a betting man I'd reckon Wayne will replace Darius with a player that will mean we are not weakening another position, so I think that would rule out Hodges and Milford. He could go Eden( specialist fb), Nikorima (X-factor) or Maranta (safe under the bomb). Personally I think it will between Nikorima and Maranta. Both have played fb in juniors but it's a big step up to NRL. Hopefully Darius is a quick healer and is back within 6 months. Maybe he could chat to Hodgo about a quick recovery from Achilles tear. Didn't Hodgo come back in less than 6 months the last time he snapped his Achilles?

I agree that I don't think Wayne will weaken the halves or centres to replace Darius, Milford stays at Five-Eighth and Hodges stays at Centre.

I think the most realistic options are Kahu, Eden or Maranta.

Maranta - Safe under the high ball, mediocre defensively, non existent ball playing skills or try finishing ability.
Eden - No idea, never seen him play.
Kahu - Good skill, can pass and kick a little bit, shaky hands, injury prone.

Seeing as you have a crystal ball, can you tell me what the lotto numbers are for the 30mill draw on Jan 3?

Seriously though, Hoffman didn't want to be a winger and he wasn't much chop at FB - that was universally agreed upon.

Barba probably would've been kept if this had of occurred prior to his release, but if this didn't happen, you're advocating a 400k contingency sitting in reserves. Economically, it makes no sense to do this.

We have fullback options, we just have to deviate from our original plan. If we're planning on using Milford as a 6 long term, it makes no logical sense to delay the experiment 12 months, regardless of how good we think he is in fullback.

We are better off playing Milford at 6, and one of Kahu/Hodges/Nikorima etc, then Milford at 1 and some nuffy at 6. We can't expect Hunt to do it all himself again, teams will begin to work him out.

IMO option A is by far our best option...

but if Bennett isn't willing to move Milford, then I would like to see Kahu given a shot at the back. While I admit that i haven't seen a lot of him at fullback (in the lower grades), friends of mine have and really rate him as a fullback.

I know that but Barba wasn't doing much at 6 either, it's just when you're comparing his performance to Hoffman's, it gives the illusion he was killing it, which in all fairness he wasn't.

And Milford was always signed to be a 6 so imo it's moot to discuss him at FB. Of course, Bennett could change his mind, but he seems hellbent on playing him there so i don't see the sense in debating things that will never happen.

It will only serve to cause unnecessary angst, lol.
