Boyd snaps Achilles - Replacement?

If Milford plays fullback, who plays 5/8?
 
On the other hand, if Jayden Nikorima is that good, maybe he could get a shot too, since we'd probably lose him otherwise?

So we're going to waste a season of Milford's valuable introduction to Five-Eighth to give us a slightly larger chance at finishing higher on the table? Doesn't make sense to me.

I'd rather we take this season as it comes and let Milford spend the entire season alongside Hunt in the halves, he'll be much better for it come 2016.

Or Ashley Taylor debuts in first grade and has a blinder. Why should we ever consider writing ANY season off?
 
Tough blow for everybody involved - I thought Boyd was primed for a big 2015.

I believe the replacement will come down to either the Nikorima brothers or Kahu. In an ideal world, Jayden Nikorima steps up, seizes the opportunity and makes a name for himself but I doubt we'll have any idea until much later in the pre-season.

Milford is staying at five eighth and it's a fair call because it's in the best interest of the team moving forward.

I never said write the season off, I just said take it as it comes, we shouldn't be reshuffling the entire team when there's a pretty high chance Boyd will be back somewhere between rounds 13 & 17 (If he heals as fast as Hodges did)
 
Anyone saying this is on Bennett is being a bit petty. Everybody wanted Hoffman gone and even if we kept Barba instead of Boyd, he could have just as likely been injured and we'd be in the same position.

Pretty gutted about this, I was really curious to see how Boyd went his year. The prospect of giving one of our young guns a shot or giving Hodges a pre-season of prep for the position is still pretty exciting though. We have plenty of talent outside of our forward pack though so I'm not too concerned.

I think the key is how Darius handles his rehab. Hodges recovered the 2nd time quickly because of this. If there is any luck in this it is that the club has been through this before with Hodges and the rehab guys will know what to do given Hodgo's quicker than expected recovery 12 months ago.
 
Taylor and J Nikorima won't get a shot they the youngest of our options and both have barely played a full season of NYC.

Kodi has had what 3 seasons of NYC and a few games of ISC as well, also the nines last year. Not saying he as talented as the other two but he has talent and speed to burn. I'd rather him at fullback than Kahu or maranta or the pom. Also rather him at 5/8th over Nicholls or Strasser if they chose to go with Milford at fullback
 
As I said in the other thread, my first option is Kahu at FB, second Taylor / Jikorima in the halves with Milford back at FB, third Jikorima at FB.

Any of the above might steal Boyd's chance of returning into FB, diverting him onto the wing, which would be awesome.

Chances are WB will go with Hodgo or Maranta there... :rolleyes:
 
Wayne was full of praise for Hodges at fullback after the game vs Knights last year. With a full preseason training as fullback and a couple of wingers who can catch he could tear shit up like he did late last season.
 
did anyone who is suggesting hodges should be fullback actually watch hodges play fullback this year? He is atrocious in defense from the back. he cant field grubbers to save his life, cant catch bombs, and may as well not even be there when he attempts one on one tackles near the line. if he's our fullback until boyd comes back we're in trouble.

If Hodges plays fullback, it has to be in attack only. Obviously someone else would have to defend there.

1. Hodges(in offense)
2. Kahu (fullback in defence
3. Copley

Wayne Bennett knows he has the next best halves from qld. He's not jeopardising their growth these season together because of an injury that kahu, hodges or maranta can easily cover.

Did you? I have no doubt that of Hodges played a whole year there he would have topped the try assist ladder for the year. The attacking highlights from his last few games would've had people asking who is Ben Barba had he done that consistently in 2012. Hodges is a god who needs to relearn some of the defensive nuances of fb.
 
Hello - have not been saying much on here lately but have been watching - with Boyd out now for 6 months or longer my mind has been going over all the options and searching for someone who is proven at NRL level - who can attack with speed - who can tackle very well - who can take a high ball - and most importantly who can pass a ball both ways and who has football brains - Yes I know your thinking I am talking about my best mate Jack Reed but sadly I am not - My perfect replacement is Dale Copley
Yes I would have had him at left centre in place of Reed but given Bennett has told him to go find a yard or 2 of pace and speed and he will be drilling in the defensive work into him as well
so backline would be Copley - Vidot - Reed - Hodges - Kahu or whoever - Milford and Hunt
