Gold Coast Titans hooker Nathan Friend used the spotlight of Friday night's derby to launch a stunning on-field ambush advertising campaign for his personal business - via his headgear.

Friend opened a can of worms for players' right to sport personal sponsorship during NRL games by wearing a massive star-shaped logo of his personal training and gym business, "Friends Complete Fitness", on the left side of his headgear.

I think the NRl is going overboard with this type of thing. It is his head gear I can't see why he can't put what he wants on it.

They've got to protect their commercial interests.

Friend claims he forgot his headgear and had the manufacter (who apparently were based just up the road) rush him a pair to Sunny. Which co-incidally had his business logo stamped on. *cough cough bullshit cough* They didn't have any plain ones? He doesn't pack a spare? He wears headgear every freaking game!

he should just shave his head, get a tattoo and not wear headgear ;)

Yes, the NRL has a right to stop this it's a rule, players are not allowed to break it especially for commercial benefits.

Yep, agree with Hammoz. He's no more in his right to do that than I'm in my rights to walk in with a big sign for my company and show it up in front of the cameras at every opportunity.

Smells of a complete set-up. Even if he pays the fine you can't buy advertising like that. He just scored himself free advertising in the Sunday Mail in the Sports Section. If he took out an advertisement, it would cost way more than the fine he now has to pay.

How many fitness centres etc have headgear.

IMO: This was a set-up

Agreed. Bit of a risk though, what if they didn't slap pictures anywhere.

Does anyone have a pic though?

I reckon he knew. Looks like he is going ot have to pay for it anyway.

If he meant to do it, it's a pretty shit ad if no one knows what the logo is.

Really? I thought it was pretty obvious that it stood for "Friends Complete Fitness", one letter is all you need.... right?

Oh, I turned my head sideways. So stupid of me!
