Brisbane Broncos Presentation Ball

Not long to go before Hook's 'this is your life' segment...getting extremely edgy and just hopin it all goes off without a hitch. Expecting not a dry eye in the ConventionCentre when he takes to the stage/couch.

Best Forward: Josh McGuire ... beat out Parker and Glenn

I'm fine with Alex getting most consistent, he rarely had a bad game this year, and considering he was hitting holes off some phenomenal Hoffman passes, I think he deserves it.

Thanks. You just melted up my sarcasm detector.

Play of the year: Barba try vs Bulldogs

interesting note Barba was involved in several of the nominated plays

Hodges (off mic) "Is Hoffy leaving too?"

Hahaha

Player's Player: Ben Hunt... not sure who else was nominated as i had ads on the stream

Paul Morgan Trophy (Player of the year): Ben Hunt, by the length of the straight.

Glenn finished 2nd and McGuire 3rd

the only award i could really argue with is most consistent. I personally would have given it to either Mcguire or Parker (who wasn't even nominated)

Surprised at all the Glenn love. I didn't think he was even close to the top or more consistent performers in the team tbh...

Not too many surprises there.

Most Consistent would have to be the biggest shock. I thought there were better candidates than Glenn who had a few ordinary games here and there from memory but then I could be overrating the efforts of Josh McGuire and Corey Parker.

As always, the awards ceremony is a reminder of how different the criteria is between the fans and the club. Not to say one is better than the other, but I reckon they rate plays that we often take for granted or are difficult to pick up on first view. I don't think I'd rate Glenn as high but I remember changing a bunch of my POTS votes on replay and throwing Glenn in as high as the first or second best player on the park when initially he wasn't even considered.

Rockley as best NYC forward was a surprising choice based on all reports but then again, it's nearly impossible to really criticise since the NYC is so difficult to follow. From what I observed during the season, he wasn't exactly a slouch and was always willing to do the tough stuff that's always under-appreciated at this level. Maybe I would have gone with Arrow or Greinke but since Jai already received recognition as Players Player and Greinke is playing for the Junior Roos I'm happy Rockley received some recognition.

I skipped out after the NYC awards but were there any good speeches that followed?

He was the most consistent.

He was consistently shit all season.

Well done to Ben Hunt, what a season. If it wasn't for him well.....

Also to Alex Glenn, most deserved as he did his job week in week out and did it very well with little fanfare.

Just reading some comments on the CM article, and I know it's only a small representative of our fanbase, but FMD how can you trash Hunt for being "the best of a bad bunch" and shitting on his efforts this year??

I know there's a fair bit of resentment aimed at the club as a result of the last few years but aim it somewhere else.. without Ben we dead set finish bottom four with no light at the end of the tunnel, in fact you could speculate whether or not Bennett would come back if he had nothing to work with in the halves.

This, except not exactly shit, just consistently mediocre.

I know having AIDS for halves on that left side did a lot of harm, but it doesn't change the fact that it just wasn't a great season for him.

Hook's entire segment was pretty good to be honest, usually he puts me to sleep when he's talking, but you could tell he was getting really emotional when talking about leaving the club and so forth.

you could also see he was getting emotional when talking about Yow Yeh being forced to retire
