Brisbane Broncos scrap co-captains

Outstanding news! Was never a fan of co-captains. I like the idea of Macca being made captain - could be just the thing to get him to take his game to the next level.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Alex Glenn.

I think he's proven this year that he's our most consistent backrower, he's only going to get better with Milford incoming down the left hand side with him, he's the youngest of the senior playing group, he's well spoken, level headed.. What more do we need from a captain?

Before this season i think this had some merit but jeez he had an unmemorable season in 2014. He might have been consistent but it was consistently average.

I think Glenn needs to stamp himself as a starting player under Bennett before getting the captaincy. Oates will be breathing down the neck of our current three backrowers before long and that assumes Parker stays at prop.

I personally don't think you can reward Glenn the captaincy after such an insipid season. IMO he should keep it on Hodges or Parker and see who stands up.

Another good season from Hunt could see him move in front of Glenn and McCullough for a captaincy gig.

So McCullough plays like shit when his position isn't under any threat. So, OK, let's make him captain...

IMO the only viable choice in our team for sole captain is Parker...

everyone else have far too much to worry about without taking on the pressures of being a captain of a club like the Broncos.

people harped on here about Parker not being captain for Thaidays entire stint... but appear ready to dump him after 1 season.

it has been widely reported that Lockyer didn't become the captain he was until the 2006 origin series (i think even Locky himself will admit that), and that was well over a year from when he first got the Broncos captaincy.

Not against Parker retaining sole captaincy but am not a big fan of forwards as captains unless they can go the full 80. It's not a big deal with an effective vice-captain (Tallis-Locky for example) but when the game is in the balance you can't have a captain sitting on the sideline.

If Parker is kept on as captain, would love to see him give the goal kicking away. As you say, there's a lot of pressure being the Broncos captain. Let's give him one less thing to worry about.

I'm happy for Parker to be captain but can we please keep him the hell away from the goalkicking duties. I've totally over seeing us score more/equal tries than the opposition yet losing the game because of goalkicking.

TBH I think Ben Hunt is our best long term option. That said it is just too much on his plate at this stage of his career.

Legitimately think he'll wait until he's been around the group for a bit before he names one

At least it'll only be one. I hated that co-captain shit.

For mine it's Parker.

Pre-Thaiday's captaincy, I would've have liked to see Alex Glenn captain the side

although now, Glenn isn't even figuring in my 2015 side onwards. I can hardly give him the captaincy.

McCullough strikes me as not being very football smart. Terrible choice to captain the team, IMO

Glenn would have more competition from Copely in the second row than Oates who is most definitely a right side hole runner.
Thaiday, Gillett, and Oates all seem to be right side players, we need a left side 2nd rower to pressure Glenn
