Broncoman's State of Origin thread of hope and despair

If it was someone like Luke Lewis or Luke Bailey, as in someone who despite being from NSW has been a servant of the game, Qld would not boo them off. Gallen would be boo'd off because he is a nasty player. I reckon the only player that would be understandably boo'd would be Hodges. Maybe Myles. But Tate? That's just gutless blind hate.

I don't think it's blind......the cockroache fans have had it in for Tatey since he pushed Birds head on the ground with his fist a couple years back.

Then Tate's public comments about dangerously lifting after game 1 ....

In their eyes, he rivaled Nate as QLD's most hated player.

Tate is right up there with Hodges and Thaiday as their most hated players for the reasons Fourex mentioned.

Mind you, they've always disliked him for whatever reason. I remember when he first came in with the neck brace and they were laying into him...guess he just has that sort of face.

The thing that gets me is that they treat the Bird Origin 3 2012 incident like it's the grubbiest act of all time but honestly, he pulled the punch so much that it was basically a facial.

Yet you hear nothing about Merrin or Jennings landing full blooded dog shots In Origin 2 2013 and Origin 1 2012 respectively.

Jennings would have been arrested for that punch if it happened outside of a footy game.

Because who is going to say these things?

The NSW centric media? or guys like fatty, wally, ikin et al. that are so bloody whipped by the rest they dare not speak out of turn

To be fair, if you argue that point they'll just keep going back until we get petty newspaper articles about an incident in Game 2 1986 where Wally had the audacity to crowd Brett Kenny with his knees.

In the end, the way I see that incident is that NSW wanted to play thug football that game, Queensland weren't going to cop it like they did the previous game and they've been sooking ever since.

If it wasn't the Tate punch it's the Hodges try.

Or even the GI try.

But a bloody good player though he was absolutely immense last night. Easily the best player on the field.

Hope you enjoyed the win.

On your statement, I think he over involved himself and was at times detrimental to NSW's play.

I thought it was a bit of a stitch up that he got man of the match.

Hogging the ball and getting in the way because you dont have enough faith in your team mates to get the job done is poor leadership.

I completely agree that he's a good player but sometimes less is more.

I agree with this and you saw it with Cronulla back when they weren't so shit. They actually did better when Gallen was out for this exact reason.

He's a front rower, his main job is to make ground. He mostly ran in the first 3 or so tackles of a set. I think, for a front rower, over involvement only comes in when the fatigue settles in and they start making errors and giving away penalties. Gallen has been known to do that in the past, but did neither last night.

Listening on the radio this arvo and both Bill Harrigan and Greg McCallum have said that Thaiday should have been awarded a try because Hayne played at the ball so therefore, play on, try.

One of the (NSW) commentators said to McCallum, "Well, we've got to fix this before it costs someone a big game"...

The tears and anger of the Queensland league community is just delicious. And they knock NSW fans for being sore losers the stuff they have come out with is just incredible.

Quite funny you should say that because back when I was in year 10 which was 2010 we had our sports carnival a week or so out from the 3rd game and a teacher there said exactly the same thing. I actually got an award at my formal for being the most passionate sports fan. My award was a QLD origin cup and I've still got it.

Did Laurie give you a call to fire the boys up before game 2? Hats of to you sir because whatever you said bloody worked!

Take it easy on us Bman.

There's 11 mnth old QLD babies who haven't seen QLD win a series ...... we got fair reason to be a bit touchy.

The stuff they come out with? Like clarifying the rules?

How dare they! Will they stop at nothing?

The run is over. It was always going to happen, eventually. My relief is that it didn't happen with Stuart at the helm. I cannot tolerate that little ****head, whereas I don't mind Daley. If we had to lose, thank God it wasn't on Stuart's watch.

On another topic, had some Blue friends giving me crap about losing the series. I just said enjoy the win, sure, but a 1-8 record in 9 years aint nothing to be proud of. Call me in 7 years :)

I like this point, john. There's has been a lot of talk in the press about the dynasty being over. I think that kind of talk is a bit premature. While the series winning streak has come to an end, if QLD bounce back and claim next year's series (and there's every chance that can happen if we learn from the mistakes of this year's campaign) then that gives us 9 series wins out of 10. That's still a dynasty for mine.
