Broncos - 2015 Discussion

The GPS devices they wear give great data, amount of distance travelled, walking, running, top speed etc. It helps to gauge training the next week.

It's all downloaded to the lap top during training and games and then training workload can be gauged.

They sit just between their shoulder blades about the size of a match box inside a vest thing.

BRONCOS great Kevin Walters has warned NRL rivals Ben Hunt will grow to rival Andrew Johns.

Hunt produced one of the finest performances of his 127-game career on Friday night, outpointing Maroons rival Daly Cherry-Evans in a 44-10 hammering of the Sea Eagles at Suncorp Stadium.

The 25-year-old scored a try and had a hand in two others, but just as significant was his ability to put the boot in Manly, amassing a staggering 469 kick metres, which was 202m more than Cherry-Evans.

In his rookie years at Red Hill, Hunt was compared to Immortal Johns largely because of their physical similarities.

At 178cm and 89kg, Hunt is almost a carbon copy of Johns, who was 1cm taller and 1kg heavier during his illustrious career for the Knights, NSW and Australia.

After watching Hunt’s clinical destruction of the Sea Eagles, Walters says the Broncos halfback possesses the formidable running game that made Johns arguably the greatest No. 7 of his generation.

“Ben is a bit like Joey in that way,” said Walters, who with Broncos assistant Allan Langer has spent the past six months mentoring Hunt and his halves partner Anthony Milford.

“Like Andrew, Hunt’s got that big rear and the lower-body strength to push through tackles.

“Ben is a different player to Alf (Broncos halfback great Langer). The boys here call Hunt the Dozer because while Alf used to beat people with his footwork, Ben beats defenders with pure strength.

“He’s got all the skills, but I think he can get even better. He’s playing some wonderful football, but the scary part is we haven’t seen the best of him. There is more in his running and defensive game.’’

Hunt has cut back on alcohol, overhauled his diet and embraced the coaching advice of Brisbane’s greatest halves, Walters and Langer.

“I had a lot of mistakes in me, I played a lot of silly football when I was younger,’’ Hunt said. “I chanced my arm too much when I shouldn’t have and it’s something I have worked hard on.

“Alfie and Kevvie do a lot of work with us and having two old halves and some of the greats of the game being there at training, it’s definitely helping my game.

“I wanted to improve my kicking game, that was my biggest goal this year. I felt I was really patchy last year so I knew I could be a better kicker.’’

That's great. Even if Hunt weren't a Bronco I'd be hoping he becomes a dead set gun on the field. The patience he showed here and just the attitude he has on the field deserves some reward, and he just has this aura about him when his on he's game.

With Milf beside him, WB Kevvie and Alf helping his game at training, and the most inspirational captain possible leading the way from the front, greatness is all but assured for Hunt. Now all we need is for him to do something about that beard...

Please tell me that was on purpose... I don't like grammar nazis, but that is just too much to bear, not to speak of the fact that ningnangnong's head could explode at any second now.

No! Remember Samson?

When Ben starts dating a chick named Delilah I'll start to worry. Until then, the only god the Broncos need has already decreed thusly: "Thou shalt not have bad hair." And if Wayne's holding the scissors I don't think even Yahweh himself would dare to disagree.

Yeah it was deliberate. I've seen one particular poster do it a fair bit and every time I see he's posts I think his on to something cool.

Well, I'm not buying it. Hunts okay but he is not in Johns class.."...........yet. Hunt does not have the complete kicking game. I hope he gains it through repetition and practice because to me it should come naturally. I really hope Hunt can't read and has difficulty accepting praise because it is a sure fire way to lose ones way.

It's all the salt air that makes he's posts from the Gold Coast so poor. His got to do better because his got it in him.

So after 13 rounds the Brisbane Broncos the most consistent side in the NRL , game 1 aside. Outright Top of he ladder .
Who'd have thought it was possible.

We are not outright top.

We are equal with the Cowboys on 20 points. But we have a much better differential (+83 compared to +33)
