Re: Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

I'm talking about stacking on the weight. You missed the point.

It's also called puberty, what is your point? he had to bulk up because if he was to play first grade the players he would be playing against are bigger, it is part of being a professional footballer and some players struggle with the commitment that it requires.

Re: Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

Put on lean muscle fair enough, not bulky/chubby. He should've never got to that size. It's no coincidence our best back is also our most lankiest.

Benji Marshall looked like he spent some time at Red Hill during the pre-season

The backs at the club wouldn't be any heavier than the nrl average and they never start the season at ideal playing weight because they lose it as they become match fit and then are only required to sustain it throughout the season.

PERHAPS Generation Y does want everything at once. In his first month at St George Illawarra, Gerard Beale has had to deal with living in a new state, playing for a new club and the birth of his first child. Despite the distractions, the former Brisbane Broncos utility said he was on track to set a personal best 40m sprint time after shedding bulk during the off-season.
Beale, 22, and his partner Roimata welcomed their baby boy Nixon into the world six weeks ago, right in the middle of intense fitness training at the Dragons.
"Nixon is the best thing that's ever happened to me,'' the New Zealand international said.
"He's not named after the former American president though. I get that a lot but we just liked the name.
"There has been a lot going on but I've actually settled here quicker than I thought I would.
"I already knew a few of the boys here, like Jason Nightingale and Nathan Fien from the Kiwi team, so that made things easier.''

Beale said there were only good memories from his four seasons at the Broncos but the opportunity to regularly play in his preferred position of fullback had prompted him to leave.
"There were no problems (at the Broncos),'' he said. "It's just the way it worked out.''
He has relished the training program the Dragons have designed for him.

"The Broncos wanted me to bulk up but because at the Dragons I will be playing fullback, I need to be lighter for all the running involved,'' Beale said.

"I am enjoying being lighter. I was a bit heavy. It is all about finding the best weight for me.
"We have time trials coming up in training and I think I could set some PBs. I'm feeling really good at the moment.''

Yep, it's kinda frustrating for the past year seeing all these players at the Broncs sacrifice pace and agility for size, especially fullbacks like Hoffman and halves like Prince. On the other hand Hoffman seemed a lot lighter on Friday, and had one of his better performances in a while.

Surely this bulking regime is all Griffin's idea since we've had the same strength and conditioning coach since 1995.

he wasn't a fb here!

So... you don't need to fit and fast to play wing?

you do, but you dont need anywhere near as much endurance as a fullback. fullback is constantly roaming the field. wingers generally walk backwards and forwards with the play, then drop back on fifth if its going their side of the field.

Classic using a photo of Gagai when he was 14 and then 19. Puberty does amazing things to the body. Body mass is fine for some players but not for others.

He wasn't happy with his playing weight for the Broncos when he was playing wing.
He was actually pretty pissed about it

Interesting to hear Michael Hancock say on the radio tonight that the Broncos are not a big pack but they are extremely fit, which he emphasized
