I want to get as clear of an image of our cap as possible just out of curiosity.

So if we can come together as a board and offer up as many sources that claim to know the amount of players’ contract I will make up a spreadsheet with the results to give us a rough estimation.

Please post any info regarding the cap for 202, the minimum wage, and the squad size, and any info regarding player contracts. Sources with claims are preferred but feel free to make guesses too and I’ll pick a value on consensus.

@Big Pete has done a lot of the heavy lifting already.
The scouts maybe watching all the games on Fox, but the media drives a player's value and there is obviously more eyeballs on a Thursday and Friday game than any other night on the week. As soon as a Broncos player has one decent showing, instantly there's headlines about three or four clubs chasing after them.

It's just the nature of the coverage of being a one team town and getting prime television spots. Even in the NFL they always make a big deal about teams performing well at prime time.

Just read a quote from Kevie that Brisbane can't afford to sign anyone else. I don't buy it, but where is the money going?

Anthony Milford - 1,000,000
Jack Bird - 975,000 (St. George are paying a sum of that)
Tevita Pangai Jr - 650,000
Matt Lodge - 650,000
Andrew McCullough - 600,000
Corey Oates - 550,000
Joe Ofahengaue - 500,000
Brodie Croft - 450,000
Payne Haas - 450,000
Kotoni Staggs - 400,000

That's what 6, 250, 000 of our cap not taking into account whatever amount the Dragons are paying on the Bird transfer.

2021 Salary Cap was supposed to be 9.9 Million so that leaves 3 275 000 between 21 players which is an average of 155,000. That will be higher with Bird's departure but that's not a lot of wriggle room, especially if Flegler is supposedly on 600,000 (they have to be taking the piss, right?)

what's the point.

anything other than deal length is pure speculation ... even by the so called "experts" in the media

Take Bird's contract for example ... during his 3 years here, his contract (from media reports) has been anywhere from 750k a season to over $1 million

The only data we have for certain is the contract lengths and player options accumulated on sites like Zero Tackle. Unless we have a player agent hidden among the members here, dollar figures would be speculation. The only amounts we can really be sure of are Milford's million a year, Boyd's 800k that he thankfully won't claim and Flegler reportedly being worth about 600k.

Why can we be sure of those figures?

Of course it’s speculation but it can at least give a speculative insight into our cap position. As Big Pete pointed out, it ain’t looking too flash.

Flegler definitely falls into the speculation category.

I wouldn't even believe a player agent ... if they told me it was dark outside, I would look out the window myself to confirm

Ahwell, lets have a crack at it.

1. Boyd - 800k - Retired
2. Oates - 500-600k? - Player option 2022
3. Bird - 950k - Departed to Dragons with ?? concessions
4. Staggs - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Player option 2022
5. Coates - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2021
6. Milford - 1 million a year, Off contract 2021
7. Dearden - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2021
8. Haas - 500k - Off contract 2024
9. Turpin - Minimum wage? 300k max - Player option 2022
10. Lodge - 700k - Player option 2023/24
11. TPJ - 600k - Off contract 2022
12. Glenn - 500-600k? Off contract 2021
13. Carrigan - 200-400k? Off contract 2022

Fifita - Departed to Titans, would have been on around 750k max if he had chosen to stay
Farnworth - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2022
Arthars - 300-400k? Off contract 2021
Croft - 300-400k? Off contract 2022
Joe O - 400-500k? Off contract 2022
McCullough - 400-500k? Player option 2021
Flegler - 600k - Off contract 2021
Isaako - 300-400k? Off contract 2022
Kennedy - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2022
Paix - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2022
Niu - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2021
O'Sullivan - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Departed to Warriors
Kennar - 300-350k? Off contract now
Luke - Minimum wage, 200k max? Off contract now
Te'o - Minimum wage, 200k max? Off contract now
Palasia - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2021
Riki - Minimum wage, 100-200k max? Off contract 2021
Kahu - 400k? - Off contract now

Question marks indicate nothing but speculation, those figures could be all over the place depending on how negotiations played out. Contract lengths and player options are accurate.

Not just the experts in the media....experts in online forums as well

I used media reported figures and then I tried to use conservative estimates. Players that have had quite a few games or have had new contracts since debuting I've tacked on a bit. 400k for Staggs current contract is probably too high now I think about it. I'd be surprised if Pie's got Kennedy at min wage.

Let me know if there is any huge issues. The concerning thing is that we have a lot of players that are now open to offers, and we don't have a great deal of cash to upgrade them:
- Riki
- Coates
- Staggs
- Turping
- Dearden

Thats a few hundred k there for upgrades. We do potentially rid ourselves of Glenn, Macca, Flegler, and Milford at the end of 21 if needed so that could free up close to $2.5m if reports are to be believed.

nice work of fiction

besides, you'd need to take 10% of each one of those values if the cap is going down by 10% for next year
yeah but the cap would also go down 10% so its redundant. Seems pretty negative to blow the whole thing of as fiction. I never claimed it would be fact but I think it is at least interesting to speculate on. Sorry mate, I'll go back to making team lists and arguing about Boyd.

I think the entire board just got raging erections looking at that spreadsheet.

Don’t be surprised to get a cold-call first thing tomorrow about the cap manager role.

It'll also be in The Courier Mail.
Then they'll sue Nashy for illegally reproducing their article.

E:Also as far as I know Macca is off contract for 21.

Double edit: apparently you already know that as it's in the text but the image has him as 2q, 22?

Few other considerations,

TPAs are often counted in media figures. That could be anywhere from 100k - 350k depending on covid and deals etc.

Marquee Player Allowance $150k

Long Serving Player Allowance / Vet allowance (Glenn, Macca [depends how the loan to Newcastle affects this])

100K in motor vehicle costs

Loading paid by other clubs - unsure if it applies for '21 but Croft was somewhat paid for by storm this year, not sure about next.

@theshed in light of this spreadsheet error, you no longer cut the mustard.
