Broncos FanTV

Broncos Weekly already do a weekly podcast. I feel like they do a good job of it aswell.

Just getting a rough estimate of how many would be willing to lend like 5-10 minutes of their time after the game to let us do the video with them. Like this post of dm me

I like what they do, Mitch is a good bloke too. Sometimes though it is lacking analytically and doesn't cover everything. It's very much two people agreeing on the same point of view 90% of the time

Broncos Weekly make my OCD go crazy.

This whole thing could be done a lot better than what's already being done.

Match previews & match reviews that are actually previews and reviews. Fan reactions of certain highlights in a game with video of those highlights included. Player reviews with highlights of said player included. Perhaps if a big game is coming up you dedicate a video of a classic between the two sides playing. There is so much more that could be done.

And if you're lucky enough, player interviews.

That's really how you make it stand out from all of the others.

I am starting a Big Bash podcast with another fellow journalism student in a couple of weeks, would be happy to lend my experience/limited expertise. My mate is the production expert however, I just provide armchair expert opinions. We're also part of a new media network starting next year, cannot say any more at this stage. Cross-promotion may be possible.

I'm having a blast with Broncos Weekly. I started with their post game show of the Cowboys semi-final and am working my way backwards.

Good blokes. Their one on the Canterbury game with the Kasiano kick was pretty good.

Worth a shot, although I doubt the format will translate well down here.

For starters, getting to the games is a lot easier in the old dart. Outside of Brisbane, you'd be expected to travel to Townsville, Auckland, Canberra, Melbourne and find at least a dozen or so Broncos fan willing to engage and have an informative chin-wag. Over there it's a lot easier to organise, look at their average crowd attendances. 60K for Arsenal, 75K for Manchester...of course if any NRL club was to do something like this the Broncos would be the most likely but you'd really have to commit for two seasons and anticipate all the ups and downs with this type of production.

If it wasn't for the logistics, I'd say it's a great idea. Some of the best footy related discussions I've had is with randos on the way home or when I'm grabbing a bite to eat. Plenty of people out there who know their footy, who can tell you the nitty gritty about the up and coming players but just don't have the platform to express themselves.

I believe the Broncos Weekly crew are members of BHQ. Seem like top blokes and their show is definitely worth a listen. Naturally when you have the same two personalities on it can become an echo chamber, so if you have any interest to improve the show, I'm sure they'd be cool with some members joining the discussion and lending their 2 cents.

Even if it just starts as a pod with 3-4 people just to get a broader range of opinions and work towards a visual medium in the year or two after. Going video right off could fall flat on its face just with all possible issues that come with it.

Don't want to step on the toes of the boys at BW, but I'm sure there's room for two shows, each doing their own thing in a way

What issues?

Basically what BP said. Also, if anything goes wrong with the video, that's it for that week. Anything else is just incomplete. Not doubting anyone's abilities obviously, but things just go wrong sometimes.

Contingency plans for audio-only is easily done

I think doing audio first, work out any kinks etc, and go from there. Sure even trial some video throughout the first year for big games or something.

Just throwing the conservative approach out there. I don't mean to be a wet blanket

Even with the issues BP expressed, video would still be fairly easy to pull off and any issues that arise wouldn't be difficult to fix if you know what you're doing. It would take someone that doesn't know what they are doing for it to be a problem.

You could even have the show audio only and still add in video highlights etc like what Fox Sports do when they do interviews with people that can only be reached by telephone.

Audio is always good. I'm not saying it isn't. That's still a good way to go and would be successful if done right. I'm just saying, a good way to get more followers quicker is video. It's one of the things people most want. They don't just want to hear about it, they want to see it.

I took over the BHQ Facebook in August 2015. One of my main focuses was to add videos to the page. We had 923 likes at the time. By the time we faced the Titans the following year (Round 5), we had well over 3k likes.

Not all of that was the videos, but about 90% of it was.

The format isn't about video highlights or analysis, it's about interviewing the fans and getting their thoughts on the game/season.

I'm aware of that.

The logistics wouldn't be a big problem with a little perseverance and some outside the box thinking. It would depend on a few things.

Just look at the amount of money you'd have to invest to get something like this off the ground.

$400 Camera (and that's probably the cheapest you'll be able to pick up a camera for something like this)
$20-50 Tripod
$100-150 Microphone (perhaps more)
$480 - $1240 - 2 x Season Tickets
$720 - 2 x Away Tickets (average estimate)
??? Finals Tickets

Then factor in travel expenses and other costs (you'd have to have emergency funds for equipment etc.) and that's a huge investment right off the bat.

The biggest issue is participation. You'd have to find like-minded fans who attend these games and are willing to put themselves out there. That's a much tougher ask here than it is over there because we don't have the same fan culture, so you're putting the carts before the horses.

Look, if you had the money, the time, the contacts, the know how you could risk it. However, you've got to be aware of the challenges involved and the amount of time and effort you'd have to put into other areas like social media to get this off the ground.

If I was doing something like this, I'd start with a video podcast. You'd have to put together a nice Broncos set with all sorts of memorabilia and have guests on who can talk football and prep so the podcast can be informative and intriguing. I'd then upload the segments onto Facebook, YouTube and whatever social media platform I could find and put together a 'Podcast' version that splices it altogether. Actual in-game footage would be a highlight but you'd be at the mercy of Telstra, Fox and Channel 9. You'd have to find creative ways to sidestep that issue.

1. I already have a camera that we are planning on using
2. I think a few members here on BHQ are willing to assist with the microphone/audio dept
3. Already have membership (Die Hard)
4. I wont be duing away games. If someone from Sydney/Melb/Townsville is willing to do so, they are welcome to
5. Finals tickets - Lets hope for a Top 4 finish then ;)

I'm assuming you're talking copyright?

It wouldn't be an issue. If you use small snippets like what Denan Kemp does with his videos, it would fall under fair use.

Well, going by the definition of fair use listed in the copyright documentation.

Granted it wouldn't be easy to get something like this off the ground unless you already have a very large following. It would take some time to get it off the ground, but it's certainly achievable.

Best example of this is the Roarcast - they started out as a video pod with occasional highlights and then moved to audio only in the last couple of years
