Is that Cameron Cullen dude any good? Any hope as a future half?

Cam Cullen is talented but lacks the skills and size to make it as an NRL halfback.

He could make it as a hooker but he'd have to spend sometime adjusting and getting rid of all the bad habits they pick up in the juniors.

I'm not too worried about size, I'd readily trade defence for extra attack in a half. Shame about skills though. Basically sounds like Wallace jnr.

Wallace Jr? Where did I miss the boat on this one

I've discussed Cam Cullen & Kodi Nikorima so many times on here I've gotten a little lazy. If I'm comparing Cullen to anybody, it'd be Ben Hunt. He has good playmaking instincts, especially close to the line but he isn't exactly throwing pin-point long cut-out passes, slicing teams apart with his running game or putting through amazing kicks - he's just doing the simple stuff really well - like Hunt. The problem is, in defence, he's a target even by NYC standards. It isn't even through a lack of technique either, guy puts his body on the line all the time but he simply doesn't have the size or power to bring the big bustling fringe runners down.

And I think that's something Ben Hunt has improved a lot since being hooker, doing that at least worked out his defense. Come on Griffin, give Hunt a good chance this year before we lose him. If it doesn't work out and he's not better than Norman, cut him loose.

Interesting to see young Ashley Taylor named as starting halfback with Cullen back to the bench. Taylor finished the match last week, had a couple of nice touches including putting a kick hrough for Byrnes to pick up and put Adams over for a try. Will watch with interest if he is still there for the Cowboys game as don't know much about him.
anyone else have any information?

Garcia shifted to prop also

So......any more info on Ashley Taylor?

Seems to be tearing them up at the moment.

Touch footie back ground .......a Shaun Johnson type?

Not a whole lot.

I'm sure we'll hear more about him if his form persists.

At this stage, he wouldn't be the first NYC half to absolutely tear it up one game and then completely fade away. Frisby was a lot like this too.

Still, I think Taylor might be a good player to balance out Nikorima and Cullen who are both a bit enigmatic.

Thought I read he was pretty good against Melbourne as well....?

Had a couple of good touches reportedly but he's no Ben Hunt just yet.

Mind you, Splinter is the NYC master round here.

Only get to watch hem when we play at home. I make sure I see their matches so I get an idea of who is coming through.
i must say that even though they have lost a few matches this year, I have been impressed with what I am seeing. Maybe the new coach is he reason. I know it is only early but I get the feeling this team is building and will be going okay by the end of he season.
I have heard a whisper at work that Ashley Taylor could be okay but this is only based on junior football so it is up to him to prove himself as he develops. It looks like he will definitely get the chance so he needs to grasp it. The one thing I will say is that as he has represented the state at touch football hopefully it means he knows how to find a hole in the defence.
I should see him play Friday night so I will post on his game after that

How do you reckon Jayden Berrell is going Splinter? I haven't had a chance to see the U20's at all since he's become the starting hooker...

He is not standing out Porthoz but this does not mean he is not doing his job. I will try to keep an eye on him as well for you. My seating is down lower this year and it sometimes harder to see what is going on around the play the ball. Much easier once it has cleared the ruck

Under 20's up 32-16 atm against the Cowboys, Taylor and Oates both have scored 2 tries, Molo and Timu bagging tries as well and Kurt Capewell has kicked 4 goals.

What position does Taylor play?? The broncos twitter feed has mentioned him a few times.

Halfback, 5/8th or fullback.

Mainly in the halves.

Will be interesting to see what sensei Splinter has to say about him.
