Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Oh it could be worse. We could be the Titans and have to resign ourselves to getting used to this low-level mediocrity.

If anything, the Titans signing Fifita only served to illustrate how low we had fallen. With all due respect to them, when in our history was there ever a period where one of our up and coming guns thought 'a move to the Titans might be beneficial to my long term career'?

Ever since the Storm entered the comp. and followed our blueprint our playing stock of gun players has dwindle to such a degree that the Storm has become us all but in name.

I mean Bellyache was Benny's assistant coach and could still be here overseeing the continuation of a dynasty if the board had been any use.

Taylor, Wallace, Arrow

Strange thing for me is Souths offered similar money start of the year and he said no.

Incredibly strange, I mean Redfern is only about an hour's drive from Ipswich so it's not like he would have had to leave home.

Not that strange really I'd have thought? Doesn't have to leave home and his family/friends and that's before you consider the fact that $1.25 million goes a LOT further even on the Gold Coast than it does in Sydney.

The ace in the hole on top of all that is how far Brisbane's stocks had fallen since the start of the year to the time he made the decision.

But if you are just after money, you overcome all that I would have thought. At one time at least he clearly wanted more than money- if it stayed that way hard to tell.

That would have to be the straw which broke the camel's back, right? Taking unders to stay at a happy successful team is one thing, taking unders to stay at a team with no leadership, a clearly out of his depth coach who can't communicate in terms simpler than Hegelian dialectics and detailed programmatic specificity, a CEO who spends most of his time on seek.com and a board who publicly backed your former boss while trying to knife him in the back before making up garbage claims to move him on without a payout, then even flubbing that too, is something else entirely.

That all sounds too incredibly dumb to be true...wait a minute.

Yeh -nah. All three were squeezed out by us as we had better options.
We didn’t have a better option than Arrow. They left because we weren’t willing to offer them as much as the Titans, we would’ve loved to keep all of them at the stage of their careers. Fifita also left because we weren’t willing to match the titans offer.

That being said, the sad state of the club definitely impacted the amount of money the Titans needed to pay to get him.

Of course it isn't purely money. Only the most naive Broncos fan would really believe that.

The money is no doubt the biggest factor, but it's one thing to weigh up the money when it requires considerable lifestyle changes/compromises and an entirely different thing when it doesn't require almost any of those lifestyle changes. Even if we assumed it was all about the money then as I said it's worth noting that the money involved goes MUCH further on the Gold Coast relative to what it buys in Sydney -maybe by as much as a third or so - which is hardly chump change if money is your only goal.

I also suspect that whilst Souths offer was generous, I doubt it was as generous as what the Titans tabled. Virtually no other contract in NRL history has even been that generous - so to say it was the same money is probably a bit of a stretch.

People have been excited for Foran and Tolman lately. Two guys who have done nothing for a long time and won’t add anything to our roster. If the Bulldogs don’t want them then why should we? Stop signing every player that’s unwanted by a club, let alone a shit clubs like the Bulldogs.

Foran has been really good in a trash tier dogs side when he’s played, it’s just getting on the field and staying there that’s the issue. I like him as a short term signing, there’s almost no one else to go after for next season.

Well I guess there isn't any chance of getting Grant or one of the Smiths so why not.

The only way I can see re-signing Luke as a positive is if it means we've been told that McCullough has found a new home for 2021.

Imagine if we're carrying McCullough, Luke, Turpin & Paix. What a waste of roster spots and cap space.

So you can take it as read that Cam Smith is definitely not happening and neither are any of his Storm colleagues either by the looks of things.

I guess they must also be confident of Macca getting a deal elsewhere for next year because otherwise Luke is pointless with Turpin, Paix and potentially Macca on the books already.

No recruitment or retention until we get a new coach, except Isaac Luke.

Not a bad depth signing if he’s on min wage and we aren’t carrying Macca.

If we arent making those decisions then how could we have decided we aren't carrying Macca and that we do/do not need Luke?

He's actually a dreadful depth signing if he's the fourth guy at the club who can only play one specialist position to be honest.
