Cowboys denied O’Sullivan. Broncos not prepared to erode depth.

They could take McCullough though if they wanted...

Which of course they won’t...

$1.2 million for Ponga?

I thought we were done with paying players money they weren't worth?
I would pay them 72.35 million plus all of QLD

I would be happy to get Ponga but statements like get rid of Milf for him are ridiculous and show are truly underrated he is on here. Ponga is great but he is one ACL away from being half the player he is and even with out that age will gradually diminish his impact.

So is Milford

Milford has a lot more to his game than running, in fact he isn’t even that fast anymore. I like Ponga but 90% of what he does is down to his speed. Yes he has great footwork but if he were to lose his speed off the mark that footwork is just some sweet dancing before being tackled.

He also happens to be quite a good defender and has a fantastic pass on him. He’s also extremely composed and seemingly durable.

I wonder - could he be a chance to play the Sharks in a few weeks if Milford makes it into the QLD side by then? I think that's our only game without Origin players.

TBF, the same could be said about just about any fullback; Tedesco, Turbo, Slater in the first 5 or so years of his career.

Outside of a handful of gifted ball players at the back, most young fullbacks are good ball runners and not much else until they mature a bit (we’re not discussing defence, so I’m not including that in here).

But Ponga has definitely shown he is far more developed at the same age as Slater and Tedesco, so it’s pretty safe to say he will surpass Tedesco soon enough as the NRL’s premier fullback.

On his current trajectory, he’ll probably be better than Slater too. The hype is real, the kid has the goods.

can't be a coincidence with the timing..??....with June 30 a month away are Brisbane letting him go now cause they have a free agent target lined up? Or is this more about beginning to lock down the plethora of young players to long term deals..??

I think the timing has everything to do with Latrell Mitchell turning down the Bunnies.

Same day Latrell comes out and says he won't be joining he Bunnies Roberts announces he's signed at the Bunnies. Souths were obviously chasing Latrell he said "no" say they pulled the trigger on Roberts.

Bennett pretty much confirms it. There was a "we had 4 or 5 players willing to leave their clubs" comment, suggesting they had a range of players they were aiming for. Mitchell, the #1 priority, fell through. Roberts was next in line. It would be interesting to see what would have happened if they signed Latrell. Would Jimmy have seen that Souths/Bennett were no longer an option, and pushed himself to return to his best?

I really struggle with Bennett openly saying things like "we had 4 or 5 players willing to leave their club" and "we had a plan to get James Roberts, we executed that plan and now he is back at Souths" etc. etc. These are contracted players they are talking about and it just seems wrong. I just find the whole thing very off-putting.

Yeah, but you'd be naive to think that every club doesn't do it.
