Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

If Manly want to keep digging a deeper hole for themselves by paying up more money they can go right ahead.

Yeah the fantasy of having DCE at the club had already died down for me and the reality of having a 33 year old, who is constantly at the bottom of the ladder without Turbo carrying them, and who is starting to wind down, and would cost 1.3m for a large number of years had sunk in.

Turbo should be earning DCE money, they were gash without him, could barely score a try
He is. That’s the issue, and his brother is on 900k a year too. Both on 5 year deals. Manly have over a third of their cap locked on 3 players for 5 years.

After solemn thought these past few days, I'm convinced the Club needs to fall on the sword of its failed predecessors and go and offer a 5 year deal multi-million dollar deal to Sam Walker.
He should've always been a Bronco. With his family in Queensland I don't think it would be difficult to present an offer to turn his head making him the star of the Broncos rebuild.
I would prefer this than spending close to $1M on a DCE, Reynolds or SJ and then being in the exact same position in 2 years when they retire or dramatically dip in form with age.
Worst case we make Robinson and Uncle Nick sweat and they're forced to spend a few more 0's than they were intending.

Sam and Harry are easily the 2 most appealing spine players, especially for a Queensland based team.

We’d still need some age and experience to partner Sam with but yeah, if you could get him you’d be really tempted to take a risk.

I’d want to know more about his bung shoulder/s before I splashed big dollars long term though.
I’m all for offering him more money to drive his price up at the Roosters though.

Yeah, I wouldn't be against them going all out on Walker. It could be another another Dearden situation where you might have to wait for the player to hit that age where they are ready for first grade as a half which the Broncos can't seem to afford to, but I feel like Walker has looked like some kind of superkid that looks ready from 18.

He's smashing it and the thing is, he is so eyes up that I don't know you can coach against it that much. I am not sure he will be worked out. Don't get me wrong, he'll have his ups and downs for sure but he is a 15 year player.

I'm sceptical of most halves his age, I feel like you can't be convinced if they are going to make it or not until they are 22 or so, but he's looked different to all the rest, I feel like he's worth a real gamble.
Of course I also thought Brooks looked similarly ready in his first year, so who knows.

What's the point in offering a Walker or Grant $1 million a year? They're already going to be getting that from the Roosters/Storm despite their claims of staying for less. It is essentially an impossibility as the NRL will impede anything we try to do and will turn a blind eye to anything their favourites sink to to retain big names.

Make the offer public so the Roosters can't pretend he signed on for 300k

Wow, that's only the 20th time DCE has used the Broncos to get a higher offer from Manly. Won't fall for it the 21st!

TBF, the last time he used the Titans successfully

Like how Souths went public on their big contract offer to Sualii or whatever and the Roosters are pretending they paid **** all. Or the Warriors (?) made public they couldn't afford that Union player but the Roosters pretend they are paying minimum wage?

Even if it was only $130k is there not cap rules that stipulate you must pay the player his market value? There is no way the NRL can justify valuing him at that price.

Only if the NRL ever see reason to get involved and investigate if there is a discrepancy. Inglis getting paid $190k by Souths (when the 3rd party deals ended up making it $650k), or Folau at the Eels for $130k. The Roosters with a hyped talent earning minimum wage? Nah, they sign for the Culcha, wave them through, all sweet.

You condemn him for something you'd do yourself? I mean, a guy marries yet sees a beautiful woman ( or one of the 52 genders out there 🙄) walk by and he glances and thinks about the object of his interest. Should that be a crime? What if the arrangement to pop down to Melbourne had been planned weeks before? I think the timing was incredibly favourable to the Broncos.

That night he was a winner in Brisbane and became part of Broncos history, the greatest comeback ever. If ever there was a time to visit (and if there was always going to be a visit) then straight after such a momentous game was the perfect moment.
I hear what you say and not condemning him mate, but it may have been a whole different story if we had lost. Yes indeed it was a memorable night and a pleasure to be there, but there's a bit of ho-hum .. ok that's over .. off we go to Melbourne. I'm really not bothered what Xavier does or doesn't do .. for mine it's more about this creeping attitude of "show me the money" amongst kids who still have a lot to prove. Just my take on things these days.
