Hetherington has been barely effective .
One good bust all season . We would need a lot more from him as #13 . Either more metres or link plays . Not strong at either .
Wahhhttt?? You watching the Denver broncos or something bloke?

Even if we lost both Haas and Flegs (worst case scenario here), Carrigan, Jensen/Palasia + Hetherington are fine, not the best in the comp but enough. Then we still have Willison, Te Kura, Robati even and Bayliss-Brow coming through as middles. We'd be able to pick up a cheap front rower or two somewhere too for depth.
We have just spent 3 years watching the nrls most exciting forward pack get belted every game and now we want to start again with new pack. No we keep either haas or flegler. Preferably flegler and keep the pack together.

the CM are reporting that we've started negotiations with Hethrington, with the hopes of signing him to a new two year deal before he can officially field offers on November 1.

the report is that he could attract offers "in excess of" $300k should he test the market and at least 1 Sydney club intends to make a serious play should we fail to extend him.

Hetherington is keen to stay loyal to the club that gave him his NRL shot.

Old Man Hethrington says:

“He is going well and he will only get better,” father Jason said.

“He is still growing, believe it or not, so he will get bigger too. I am really happy with his progression and the way he is handling it all.”

While he still calls himself a Bulldog, Jason said he would be happy to see his son stay in Brisbane and play for Broncos.

“He was given an opportunity at the Broncos and he grabbed it,” Jason said.

“I am happy for him regardless of what club he is playing for. At the end of the day, the decision as to where he plays will be up to him.”

Kobe is a good player and hope he extends, I love his defensive intensity he is good at folding *****.

Think he needs to either add some size or build on minutes going forward though, I see him playing for Queensland in the next year or two.

He did do a 70 min stint against the Dragons but his average seems to be around 35 mins, He needs to get that up to about 45 mins imo to stay at lock otherwise build a bit of size and be a Prop and put Gamble in the 2nd lock position behind Patty.

Kevin Walters confirms he will have to jettison former captain and last year's most consistent player, Jake Turpin, to make way for his son:

“At the moment, there is nothing for Jake with us for next year unfortunately. The reality is it was going to be hard to keep Jake. We have Billy Walters and Cory Paix in our squad at the moment, so as much as you would love to keep all your players, with the salary-cap it’s difficult. ’Turps’ has played some great games for the Broncos and he is good at those little effort areas, particularly in defence, but with our roster, we don’t have any spots left for the hooker position.”
“Turps wanted to try and get more game time at another club to secure something for next year. He felt it was hard to secure a contract somewhere else if he wasn’t playing NRL here. It never eventuated in the end, so we were happy to hang on to him and we’re happy to honour his deal for this year.”

Newcastle football boss Peter Parr has slammed the door on him too:

“Our recruitment manager Clint Zammit tells me we have some room to move in the salary cap but we won’t be signing Jake. He is a wholehearted player but his name hasn’t been mentioned to me at all, so we have no plans to sign him.”

No hard feelings, mate, says Ben Ikin:

“Jake is a good consistent player who is very well respected by his teammates. You can see how much he stiffens up the middle defensively when he is out there. Over time he has worked hard to get more in his game creatively. He asked for a release earlier this year, but since coming back into the side he has done a good job.”

With only Paix and Walters that isn't enough for our 9 stocks next season.
Especially since both aren't 80 minute hookers ATM.
We have Mozer but he's a while off, Kobe could fill in for a game if we are desperate but we should be adding a specialist 9 to the roster.

They can't be better than Billy, that's the only prereq. Good luck.

The Titans have signed Sam Verrills.

Hetherington has been outstanding, bends them in half with his defense and has made some big metres at times too. Deserves the upgrade and it's no shock to me other clubs are interested, hopefully they don't get a look in.

Seems to me like Turpin is in the side to try and secure a contract somewhere else and Kevvie is happy to oblige because he doesn’t think we’re going to win the premiership this year.

If that’s the case, that’s poor Kevvie

tbh turpin wouldnt be a bad pick up for a side like the warriors

well will hardly break the bank if it is set to happen anytime soon
If Billy's to be the linchpin of our premiership winning spine he's worth more than basic wage. The spine isn't the place to save money.

i wonder how much our hands are tied cap wise moving players on or if we a free and clear of those roster movements?
the warriors have leaked 561 points this year i think anyone would be an upgrade lol

Broncs should sign Matt Purcell at hooker. The game has evolved where his particular skillset of natural speed will suit the NRL and will fill the void of ruck speed and creativity that the Broncs desperately needs.
