Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Herbie is definitely a big loss, but it depends on the price. Feels like everyone we have thinks they are worth the big bucks but honestly, most of them are plodders and that’s why we can’t make the finals. Not many broncos players have gone on to be overly successful after leaving either. We need to recruit more and develop less, because we just get used and abused with development

Peter Badel, Brent Read, Michael Carayannis:
"The Broncos and Dolphins are also waging war over Flegler, although the Sydney Roosters could yet have a say after they earmarked the Brisbane bookend as their long-term replacement for Jared Waerea-Hargreaves."
"News Corp understands that the off-contract Flegler will consider his future over the weekend as he weighs up whether to leave the Broncos, the club that game him a shot at the big time. The Dolphins are believed to have their nose in front, having weighed in with the biggest offer - their rivals suspect the fledgling franchise has offered the Queensland Origin forward in excess of $800,000 a season."

The Roosters??? You have to be kidding me. Dolphins throw all sorts of money at Flegs and Herbie but Crichton and Radley are willing to re-sign for LESS, B.Smith and Young also willing to sacrifice money to go there. Yep, totally believable.

Going on Roosters logic, given we've lost Herbie and TC now, surely we have enough for Fifita back and pick up Manu + Sam Walker and a little left over for Harry Grant as well.

But we must be giving some thought to Fifita surely, he isn't going to be on anywhere near what he is on with his next contract and if we lost a Flegs to pick up a gun backrower, that would be a nice silver lining. Surely we could at least afford to offer him 5-600k as is.

I realise that you need to take reporting with a grain of salt in this sport.

but this doesn't seem to be the case ... the reports were that Fifita was being offered about 900k from the Raiders and would be looking at something similar from the Titans.

if you could get him for around the 700k, of course you'd take it. but that doesn't seem likely now.

assuming we lose Flegs, then the very first thing you do with the money is write a cheque to Pat Carrigan. give that man his money, he has earned a big pay rise.

Fleggs ain’t worth 800k. Whilst losing another of our products wouldn’t be great, I wouldn’t be offering more than 650k.
Im pretty sure Patty is only on around 550k
I would have been fine with losing Fleggs and retaining Herbie

really dont think losing flegs is that big of a deal.

honestly it feels like he has ben suspended more games then he has played for us any way. Let the THE spend 800k on him, that's stupid money that should only be reserved for the best in there position and he is far from that.

I'm sure we can pick up a player in the next offseason that will do a similar job for us at a fraction of the price.

Getting your backline sorted with combos and players that defend well is what will win your premierships.
getting big metre eating forwards is only a bonus you look at once those first 2 are settled so we should not be breaking the bank for those types of players.

we really should be copying the storms strategy as much as possible they have been the most consistent team of the last decade. (excluding the roosters who dont even have a cap so they dont count)
