Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I think both are million dollar forward under the new cap. If Flegler is getting 800k offers Carrigan will be getting a mil.

Realistically though Payne is worth like 800k and Carrigan 900k. Unless Payne takes his game up a level.

Gotta factor in their marketability off the field as well .
Payne and Flegs don`t have the charisma of Pat .Aren`t the Face of the Broncos that Pat is .

He played middle for Maori All Stars .
Was very energetic . But ,,, raced out of the line in defence one too many times and Nicholas Hynes stepped him and put on a try .
Probably could play there but needs to work with his team mates in defence . Not try to be a hero .
Was that Nicho's try??

Recall he was coming from marker and the second marker didn't follow.

He overran it a bit so has some blame in the try, but no one closed the space behind him either.

Not sure he was playing middle on that play either, but can't be sure... I think the play prior there was a backline move out to his side and he shut it down (hence why he was in marker).

Salary cap only cares about performance, not marketability. Pat does however have the best chance of getting 3rd party deals outside of the club to boost his earnings.

At that money you'd have to let him go, but seriously guys leave us alone, pick on some other team

And let us get back to where we were in the 90's and 00's?

From Badel's latest article:

Farnworth's Dolphins deal is worth "in excess" of $700k per year

Flegs will make a "definitive" call on his future in the next 48 hours

last year Manly tabled a 6 year, $675k per season deal for Flegs ($4 million), but he wants to stay in QLD.

The Dolphins package for Flegler is around $800k per year ... he stands to make an extra $150k per year (over a 4 year term) by leaving us for the Dolphins.

We have classified Payne and Patty as our two top middles, so won't get into a bidding war for Flegs and have accepted that we could be outbid by the Phins.

should we lose Flegs, we'll be looking to Jensen, Willison and Te Kura to play the supporting role for Patty and Payne

So basically...as usual...he has been reading this forum.

This would be the same guy that knew he was re-signing for Brisbane and how much and was wrong and he now knows how much he signed with the Dolphins for?

If it was more than $700k for Herbie I’m glad we didn’t pay anywhere near that. He’s mid range at best. The only centre worth that sort of coin is Joey Manu and that’s because he could be the best fullback in the comp.

If flegler goes, surely David Fifita comes into play… can replace Herbie with Mariner or Arthars. Move Carrigan to prop rotation with Marty and Jensen with Hetherington at lock. And move Riki to the middle and get Fifita back.

2024 team
1. Walsh
2. Oates
3. Staggs
4. Cobbo/Mariner
5. Mariner/Cobbo/Arthars
6. Maam
7. Reynolds
8. Carrigan
9. Billy/Paix/Mozer
10. Haas
11. Fifita / Riki (if we can’t get Fifita)
12. Capewell
13. Hetherington
14. Paix/Mozer
15. Jensen
16. Tapau
17. Riki/Piakura/Willison

If the guy is the face of the club that would require more time committed to promoting the club . And making the club more money .
Which entitles them to more money . 3rd party or salary cap . They are more valuable .

Congrats Pud .
You got it right after all . You were just a year early . LOL .

I for one hope Flegs does go. Nothing against the bloke, but it will be great for balancing our cap.

I’d be happy for us to make a play for Fifita if Fleggs goes. I think he would be a very similar situation to Walsh. The grass isn’t always greener. We would get him cheaper than any other club could imo.
He’d be mad not to come back if the club reached out to him with a competitive offer. His other options right now appear to be staying at the tits and continuing to rot or going to Canberra. That said, the rorters probably have an extra 1.5 mil lying around.

I LOVE Flegs as you are all aware but if we lost him to get Fifita back, that would certainly not be a net loss. That said, I love Flegs and if he stays for like 650k a season, I reckon with the new cap rules, it is a bargain.

it just depends on what it would cost to get Fifita back... because IMO 800k a season is the absolute max we should pay,

Of course but this is all on the proviso that Fifita is gettable and we have no idea whatsoever about that, I just started the rumour like yesterday.
