Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Seems we are overlooking Carrigan right now ( who has asked for an upgrade and been told no talks imminent ) and concentrating on the grub instead. Dangerous and stupid move by the Broncos i reckon.

Where are you getting this from?

Without knowing the ins and outs of it all, not the best idea IMO. I'd be upgrading him first and I'd be getting it done before Origin...his price is only going to go up.

Its a case of using the player to his strengths in the right position and right timing. He has great value and could be a long term quality NRL player.
Yes, he could be great value and a long term quality NRL player.

That's the point though. There are so many examples of players leaving because the grass is greener somewhere else and it doesn't always work out that way.

If we lose a Bulle, but gain a Jenson or Hetherington, have we actually lost anything?

You are referring to Haas I assume?

Source for your claim on Carrigan?

Sometimes i regret making comments! Cant really say where i got it from without causing a bit of friction.

As i always say, its up to people if they want to believe or not. I wouldnt blame people if they didnt believe some random on a forum.

If true, that's a real mess and will result in a long term debacle for the club. Should be sorted ASAP for both Carrigan and the clubs future. No debate - get it done.

I still think payne is out the door when his contract ends. He fucked up asking for a release and he learnt from it so will see the contract out. He just has too many people around him that would be telling him to leave for a "premiership" team.

Players don't want to make their clubs a premiership team anymore. They just want to join one.

I remember years ago there was a story about lodge, hass, carrigan, fafita and flegler talking about how they would work to make their own dynasty. 3 are now gone (3 for money) and one likely to go.

Yep, not saying he won't have a much better season, BUT, let's imagine we have a fully fit team, who does he replace?

Our bench would likely be

Flegler, Paix, Hetherington, Taupau

Extended
Palasia
Piakura
Willison
Bayliss

Hetherington had a pretty good year last year. Possibly he pushes Taupau out, but that is debatable.

So maybe he covers origin and injuries, but I don't see him as a regular. Maybe if he had stayed he could have cemented a spot, but certainly not one what I've seen since he left.

Next year maybe he leapfrogs Willison and/or Piakura and with Flegler and Palasia leaving, seems more likely to receive regular game time.
That's fair and for the record I wasn't arguing that the Broncos missed out. You admitted you hadn't watched him too closely so I just gave you a quick summary. Fingers crossed it works out for both parties.

things in his personal life have changed significantly since then.

not to mention that those people around him were talking to him about leaving for a bigger pay day ... the premiership excuse just came out when the money reason went down like a lead balloon.

Payne would be an idiot to leave here. Rightly or wrongly, He's still going to be the top earner at the Broncos and he's close to family.
