Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Yeah Sam hasn’t really kicked on after looking like an incredible talent early on.
Roosters have looked extremely lost since Walker became the 7. He still has the potential but does not seem as sure of a thing as he appeared in his debut.

Don’t get this any wind. Let the Rotters, the pretenders & their trumpet blowers live in Uncle Nick’s lala land.

We should probably delete these threads before Badel find them and scribble a conspiracy article. 😀

We will not lose Carrigan. The club knows how important he is, he’s future captain and they’ve sacrificed Flegs to keep him. They will not stuff this up, relax.
After the last 5 years I’m definitely not yet in a position to make any confident statements regarding our retention

It’s kind of like DCE, some players just start their career at full potential which makes you think they are destined for elite status due to how good they are at a young age but really they just continue with their early career solid form.

I am obviously a huge Walker fan and have been since 2019 and his Meninga days so I am not going to change now.

I think people treat him harshly, he's 21 in April and played 47 NRL games at same time after that many games Thurston was at his first year at the Cows.

At the end of that 2005-year Jono had 55 games, a Grand Final, three State of Origins, 39 NRL try assists and 10 tries in his career.

Walker at the moment has 47 games, 15 tries, 35 NRL try assists.

I see this year as his "Jono 2005."

Apart from the Grand Finals and Origin I think he's tracking pretty well for a 20-year-old half back.

Walker has also had the luxury of playing for the best team money can buy.

Thurston didn’t…

I may sound odd but is it just me or everyone else see a great 7 in Sam? I haven’t seen extraordinary play making abilities(at least 1 or 2 per game) in him. If he’s in some other team other than Rotters, he would’ve been written off by now.
I think he's got the attributes to being a good attacking half and he definitely does have playmaking skills, but to me I think his biggest downside at the moment is his long kicking game.. also haven't really noticed much of a short kicking game... albeit I don't pay a lot of attention to rorters games.

Doesn't seem to have any power in those kicks and that's a necessity in the current game. He may become more powerful as he gets older, but at the moment he's pretty undersized in the defensive line and doesn't have a lot of length or hangtime on his kicks.

It must be said that JT didn't really have the biggest kicking game either; however in the previous era you could get by, because penalties assisted with getting field position and changing momentum.

He's also slow as ****, I reckon most props chase him down with ease.

When walker gets some man muscle he’ll be unreal. He’s got skill and vision (you can’t teach that) he just needs some speed work and time to build strength. Would love to get him in around two/three years.

I think Walkers team/team mates will slow the process of his development as a superstar 7.
At the Roosters it's not his team, hes not the guy. He has senior stars in tedesco, Keary, Manu, bsmith so I think he's over shadowed abit and you only see glimpses of his capabilities because of that.
Once Thurston moved to the Cowboys he really kicked off, that team was his with Bowen and Payne whereas if he stayed at the dogs and is a starter I don't think we see the same player as he become.

He can't talk to anyone until November; they have eight months to extend him.

Do you live in a fantasy world ?
They can`t put a contract in front of him and ask him to sign ,,, but they can contact his manager and ask what would you say to an upgrade ? Or would Pat like to be more comfortable when his career finishes .

And what will be the consequences ? Nuttin .
The one who thinks he's a tough guy threatening women.

So you are a sexist , misogynist ? LOL .
Equal rights ?

They did put his Mummy behind bars . I guess that creates a certain kind of prejudice . Making threats to cops [female or otherwise ] is a little different to actually assaulting women .

Is a female police officer not considered to be female? You do realise threatening and assaulting are not the same meanings right?

{sarcasm ] Payne doesn`t discriminate . LOL . [/sarcasm ]

Drunks say stoopid things when they are upset . If he was doing shit like that regularly . Sack him .

I think I would even favour walsh at 7 over walker (and i think walsh is a fullback).

Walsh has a big voice and has a good footy brain so i think he could be quite effective in an organiser role but with the added benefit of a running game. Walsh also hasl better long kick than walker. If walsh was interested in making the transition he has the tools.

Hard pass on Walker. He's one of the worst 7's in the comp made to look better by the talent around. Has a really awesome play in him now and then, but the Roosters will be done with him soon.

What a weird post. You seem to be making excuses for the **** and his poor behaviour. Couldnt care less if you feel he has to actually assault the cops for it to be an issue. My standards must be way higher than yours obviously. What he did was shocking behaviour and in all reality if we had any balls we would have sacked him with his history. Just because he probably he himself didnt have the balls to follow through with his threats doesnt make his behaviour any worse.

And no, i'm none of the things you said. I just treat people how i would want to be treated. Both Payne and his grubby family dont seem to live by that rule. Ask yourself why did they put his mummy behind bars as you put it. Might be due to her repeated violent behaviour and her flounting of the law that cost 3 innocent people their lives. If Payne has an issue with that then he has problems.

I doubt we will lose him, but you cant rule out the stuff management put into their heads. If Carrigan was being dealt with first for example you can bet Payne's management would be using it to convince him the Broncos dont see him as a priority and he should go to market. People might laugh at this, and its probably not the right choice of words, but players need to feel appreciated and wanted by their clubs. Player managers will use any tactic they can to get the most money for themselves first and foremost. If that means getting a player into a bidding war they dont care.

Luckily, we have a few things on our side. Firstly, Carrigan is a lot smarter than your average footballer. I dont think he's going to be swayed by a manager trying to make out the Broncos dont want him based on when he is negotiated with. Secondly, he is a team player and puts the team and club before himself. As long as they dont lowball him or mess him around, he's signing.

That's basically my point. I doubt the club has said to him, shut up and wait your turn, I'm sure they've explained to him why he isn't yet but they also see him as a very high priority.
