Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Don’t want to even read this shit.

There's not much real info in there.

Nothing seems to bother Payne,” Cartwright said on Wednesday.
“He keeps his football totally separate.
“When Payne comes to training, you wouldn’t know what is going on outside of what he needs to do here and that’s one of his strengths.
“He has a steely resolve and that’s all that matters at that point in time.
“All the noise and whatever else is happening around them, it‘s going to look after itself.”

And some rumours about Storm holding preliminary talks with Haas' management.

Then Ikin quotes
“Payne sets himself some pretty big goals,” Ikin said.
“He is very driven, he is very ambitious, he is very deliberate and if he has some other goal on his mind, then he will go after it.
“I would say as someone who would love to see him stay at the Broncos, I hope that goal in the back of his mind is that he is going to go after premierships with Brisbane.

“I don’t know what other clubs can afford.
“You have to speak to Payne about what his key drivers are at the moment.
“I can’t answer on his behalf, but if it’s money, there might be some massive offers out there that are bigger than he will get from the Broncos.”

In other news, the article says Reynolds will sign a 12 month extension at the end of a year, and the club has offered a 2 year extension to Madden to keep him here until the end of 2026.

“I am confident Jock will stay,” said Orr of PSM.
“He really enjoys the club, players and coaching staff.
“Jock understands Adam Reynolds is looking to go on in 2025, but he feels the Broncos have a game plan for him which he is excited about.

“Jock loves the Broncos and can’t be happier, but the only issue is he’s not playing first grade. You can’t blame anything or anyone because the Broncos are playing great football and Adam Reynolds is in the best form of his career.

“One of the reasons Jock went to the Broncos was to learn from Adam. “Eventually Adam will retire, so Jock hopes to be the first cab off the rank. “He would love to wear that Broncos No.7 jersey on a regular basis.”

I'm not convinced on Madden, he still has a year left on his contract I'm pretty sure but at current I don't see much to suggest he is a realistic post Reyno option.

That said it's probably not realistic to have a post Reyno option as a backup half anyway.

My ideal at this stage is probably still Sam Walker, Lachlan Lam is another one, but I doubt he will stay in the SL for two more years.

Interesting in regards to Jock.. you'd imagine we aren't paying him a fortune and by 2025 he'll be 25yr old... so potentially the club are happy enough with what he's showing and feel he can possibly become a future 7 for us.

If he signs then it would suggest he's happy to bide his time behind Reynolds and hopefully learn everything he can off him.

If the storm can afford haas, Hughes, Munster, Grant, paps and NAS then the NRL is totally broken.
If the Broncos can afford Haas, Walsh, Carrigan, Cobbo, Flegler, Farnworth, Riki, Capewell, Mariner, Piakura, Mam, Oates, Staggs, Reynolds and Mam then the NRL is totally broken.

"poaching raid"

He's going to the open market, yeah?
Haas being linked to other clubs is basically Pokemon at this point. And we haven't even collected them all yet. Panthers, Raiders, Knights, Sharks, Eels come on down.

None of them are on or over $1m at this stage

But we aren't looking to recruit big names either are we. We have lost two origin / international players because they don't fit under the cap. This is the same as Penrith over the last few years losing Kikau, Api, Burton, Crichton next year, etc.

Compare this with the Roosters who poach whoever they want and then still chase big names like bringing in Young and Leniu next year for the loss of...Turpin?

Melbourne also in recent years have lost the Bromwiches, B.Smith, Tino and Kaufusi but have bought in Coates and upgraded their spine to all basically be on a million dollars each plus NAS, Olam and Welch who were all highly sought after. Apparently though, they still have a million spare to chase Haas.
