Unless he basically comes on unders for 2025 and then takes Reynolds' salary plus some of the list clogging halves / hookers for 2026. But hey, we now have the Paps precedent thanks to the Storm.

I think Reynolds money is already spent on Walsh and Ezra... it's why it looks like a luxury buy.

Bhunt wasn't in the plans for our cap and now they'll have to find space for him.

I think Madden leaves... what's the point of him staying around with Bhunt taking his spot as next man up in the halves and then as the bridging half in 2026 until Black is ready.

He's better off heading south to find an open halves spot at a different team... like say the dragons.

The plus side to Bhunt is that it's only short term... they have to find his cap space in 2025 (most of the team is already on the books) and 2026 (a lot of open roster spots), before it's gone again... but you shouldn't do it if it means losing long term pieces (Cobbo, Staggs, etc.) just to fit in a cameo with an expiration date.

The Storm are hardly the first club to re-sign one of their players for significantly less than a rival were offering.

we've got plenty of examples from our history of similar deals. (and i'm just talking from the NRL era when the salary cap was treated more seriously) ... hell, we've even got an example of being the rival club and poaching a player that was offered significantly more to stay at their current club.

I still cannot work out how we can afford Hunt as we already supposedly have cap limitations. Cobbo has been underperforming and Staggs wages was pumped up due to the expectations of being 5/8 ?? should both accept unders.
Mozer needs a increase. Jenson about the same and we should keep him. Willison would have been upgraded.
So the only way to get money for Hunt would be to release players, and they would have to be current players.
Cobbo or Staggs would fit that scenario.
Do we want to lost some current players for a 2 year gain of Hunt?

Cap limitations or are we trying to Baal be our cap better. We’ve had too much $$ put into non spine players and we’re trying to fix that.

Probably been said by someone... however signing Hunt in my opinion extends our immediate Premiership window by another year.
Realistically, we aren't winning with a Madden, Rogers or Sexton in the #7 jersey post Reynolds' retirement.
Mam and Walsh aren't ready to dominate without someone running the ship!

Milford was my biggest disappointment in a player I've ever had. A man with so much potential that never lived up to the hype he was receiving.

No problem if we sign BHunt but it means we are all in on JHunt, Goz and Kobe as our backrow benchies.
This is where Madge has to get something we haven't seen from them yet.
Playing within a simple structure, being super fit and knowing your job can deliver some decent improvement. Time will tell but if Madge can't get the extra from those guys we're not doing much except make the 8 next year if they don't step up.

Possibly.. excluding hookers we've got the below... obviously short on the edges.

I'm interested to see what Madge can do with Kobe, Hunt and even Baker... they're all 26 or under and Madge coming from the storm system may have picked up some methods to get the best out of toilers.

NRL auditors have the power to place a nominal figure on Hunt and, for example, have him valued at $800,000 in Brisbane’s salary cap, even if the Broncos’ official deal is worth less.

the courier mail haven't attributed the speculation of a nominal figure for Hunt to anyone at all (especially at the NRL). so it's pure speculation on their part at the current time. also remember that any nominal figure would be reduced the longer he is unsigned.

If you can find a buyer for Madden you probably free up somewhere between $300k-$500k for 2025 and 2026... that would basically get us Bhunt... assuming we have some sort of cap space available for this year.

All the hookers except Billy are off contract end of 2025... it would assist affording Bhunt for 2025, but we can get rid of whoever for 2026 anyway so just not re-signing them affords Bhunt.

I’d much prefer keep Madden but he could push for a release if we sign Hunt. I still think one of the hookers needs to go.
