If we are all in on Black though (and yes he is obviously very much an unknown) but two years of Reynolds - Hunt should get us there, so if we get Hunt, Madden really doesn't have a pathway anymore.

Yeah that’s why Madden might opt to try and get out if we get Hunt. I’d actually be happy enough with Madden with Reynolds in the halves until Mam is back. I think there’s a decent footballer in Madden. Just don’t know if we will get to see it.

Verhoeven is only 17, he just did year 12. He played for the Academy U17 this year.

I just don't see why Madden would want to hang around if we sign Bhunt.

He's still looking to make his mark in the NRL and being behind Reynolds, Ezra and then Bhunt doesn't help his cause at all... especially with Black coming through as the next man and probably passing him in 2026 if Bhunt or Ezra go down.

His value is probably at it's highest right now and there would be takers down in Sydney... if we sign Bhunt then the longer he stays in Brisbane the worse it gets for him as he'll just be playing Qcup and be out of sight to the rest of the NRL.

It's not really anything against Madden, Broncos are going after Bhunt hard and if they get him then Madden drops down the pecking order... but his quality is higher than 4th on the halves depth chart and potentially dropping further pending how Black goes through 2025.

the courier mail haven't attributed the speculation of a nominal figure for Hunt to anyone at all (especially at the NRL). so it's pure speculation on their part at the current time. also remember that any nominal figure would be reduced the longer he is unsigned.

The nrl are a joke if they try to force us to pay 800k under the cap. Obviously it’s garbage journo speculation at this point, but it would be a move that would force him to the phins. Three clubs were offering Hunt 500-600k (if you believe the rumours), that’s what he should be worth otherwise what’s to stopping the nrl from saying “oh Cleary would get 2 mil at the phins, tigers, drags etc so we’re going to force riff to pay him that under the cap”?

Wasn't saying he's playing anytime soon, just reminding people of the younger guys that are in the longer term plans... same as Jett Bryce.

Particularly for a 35 year old. Surely he can pick where he wants to play if the salary is reasonable. It’s not like he’s taking $200k

Unless part of the deal for Hunt is that he accepts he’s going to be hooker. When Ezra comes back, it’s either that or he’s in QLD Cup. Maybe they won’t want to stuff around with playing him in the halves part time.

I'm sure Hunt's attitude is that he'll play wherever he needs to for the team, but if there's an injury in the halves I'm assuming Hunt is moved there over Madden.

We've got Mozer, Billy, Paix and Smoothy to play at hooker and I'd imagine all of them are being paid less than Madden.

Madden also has value to the NRL market... he's still only 24 and was in some demand when Broncos ended up getting him.

Since then he's been learning under Reynolds and has had some good games in NRL.

Teams like knights or dragons could be interested in him... there was a team chasing Ilias just recently wasn't there?

Even a team like Souths could be on the lookout with Cody getting older.

Hell even ESL... he could head over there, be in contention for man of steel and then get an NRL gig after that.

Maybe he's not a rolled gold prospect anymore, but his time at broncos is pretty much done if Hunt arrives and he needs to be thinking about his future.

If the nrl don't allow us to sign him I'd love and fully back hunt to take the nrl to court. It would absolutely destroy the salary cap bs.

It's entirely likely the reason this is dragging out is the Broncos are working to see if they can make a home for someone already on the books and it's waiting on a second team to put through their offer.

As BHunt is a free agent - is there a cooling off period before annoucement?
