Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

quick question ... have you seen Ben Hunt play?

he has a strong running game. arguably his best attribute

He did, back in 2015.

9 years later, he’s probably lost a yard or two of pace. I doubt many teams are worried about his running game. He’s always been a halfback and that’s what the Dragons needed him to be. Ezra has a run first mentality, because we need that. Ben Hunt with a run first approach probably doesn’t maximise what he can offer. It’s not his best attribute anymore.

Ben Hunt 2024 - 10 linebreaks
Ezra Mam 2024 - 4 linebreaks

Benny can still dummy and run with the best of them, I think his kicking game is incredibly overrated, always has been. His best attribute has always been his off-the-cuff running game

Those stats look great on paper but I reckon if you compared them in terms of who touched the footy more, it would be probably be what you’d expect it to be. It’s a touch misleading when you compare someone like Ben Hunt who was the Dragon’s marquee halfback to someone like Ezra Mam. Not to discredit Ezra but let’s face it, we have plenty of strike in our backline, it doesn’t always have to go through Ezra. Can’t say the same for the Dragons.

Given how much Reynolds was missing though and how much Mam is paid, you’d expect Ezra would have stepped up - he failed badly.

I definitely agree there. He'll be a great 5/8 to support Reynolds for sure.

Yeah all those games he`s played on the left side he`d be a natural #6 !
Played nearly exclusively on the right and very rarely at #6 but don`t let that stop you .

Did he also top the league for try assists?

My concern is that reynolds and hunt are both right side players.

It is small thing, but it can impact your attack timing and your defensive instincts.

Confirmed Train and Trial List:
1. Hayze Perham (Fullback / Back Utility)
2. Bailey Trew (Winger)
3. Va'a Semu (Middle)
4. Cameron Bukowski (Hooker)
5. Jett Bryce (Second-Rower)

Coby Black (Halfback) and Israel Leota (Winger) both elevated to top 30.

No real help with the back row in that group. Jett Bryce is too young to be considered help.

An amazing halfback with years of experience, wouldn't find it hard to pretty much change the number on his back and switch sides of the field.

I don't see it as a massive concern especially with Hunts experience with multiple positions as well to assist him. He's a test grade player and would still have an amazing impact playing either left or right side.

You wanna bet on that ? LOL .

Might get kinda cramped with him and Reyno on the same side though ?
Walshy will play only left ?

Bryce handled the local Gold Coast A grade comp and nearly made his Cup debut- first year out of school I think he's tracking the best and Horne as far as young Broncos forwards. If Bryce could play Cup in 25 that would be a fantastic outcome.

Horne is obviously coming from further back having just finished Year 11 but he's that rock hard, PNG man child vibe- see the try he scored against the Junior Roos.
