Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Bryce handled the local Gold Coast A grade comp and nearly made his Cup debut- first year out of school I think he's tracking the best and Horne as far as young Broncos forwards. If Bryce could play Cup in 25 that would be a fantastic outcome.

Horne is obviously coming from further back having just finished Year 11 but he's that rock hard, PNG man child vibe- see the try he scored against the Junior Roos.
Great to have these guys tracking along well but they won't help us in 2025. We need edge forwards who can compete with Piakura and Riki

Could Maguire be tempted to shift Carrigan to second row during the game and use Hetherington as lock?

I'm not calling for it but obviously, Patty is a pretty decent second rower as well as middle.

Something like:
8. Jensen
10. Haas
11. Carrigan
12. Riki
13. Hetherington

15. Willison
16. Te Kura / Taupau / Semu
17. Piakura

This might sound crazy but I would be very tempted to release Hetherington to the tigers if we got Bateman in return. Tigers are apparently willing to chip in 300k per season for Bateman so a swap with Hetherington would mean like for like in the salary cap.

Manly have cooled on Bateman but 2 NRL sides are interested - would be surprised if we weren’t one.

Is Bateman any good these days? He seemed pretty checked out when I watched him play for the Tigs. I don't pay much attention to stats so maybe he's still performing well enough to be considered an option for us, at least in the second row where Kobe hasn't really played.

There's a fairly simple reason that it sounds crazy........it is crazy

My concern is that reynolds and hunt are both right side players.

It is small thing, but it can impact your attack timing and your defensive instincts.
I was concerned about this too but watched a few highlights and looks like he has no trouble on the left. Could actually work well to have them both drifting and linking or swapping sides..

Defence is my main concern, but at least the decision making will improve from ezra and piakura will likely be held accountable...

I was very keen on that idea but there's one thing I don't want....

His manager is Isaac moses, less of his players we have the better. I think an out of the box hot head is OK with a good coach man managing them, even benefits to the squad dynamics, but a snake player manager is always bad for the team...

Confirmed Train and Trial List:
1. Hayze Perham (Fullback / Back Utility)
2. Bailey Trew (Winger)
3. Va'a Semu (Middle)
4. Cameron Bukowski (Hooker)
5. Jett Bryce (Second-Rower)

Coby Black (Halfback) and Israel Leota (Winger) both elevated to top 30.

I hope that Leota fixes the dickfingers and quickly if he’s occupying a top 30 spot. Those in the know can probably counter this, but what I’ve seen of him nowhere near justifies him being in top grade yet

He's been genuinely horrendous in basically every game I've watched him, trials, U19 origins, etc.

Only 19 years old though, if he's been pushed in to the top 30 he must be training well. Daniel Tupou also had dick fingers when he first started in the NRL, it's something that can be fixed.

He already had the top 30 contract lined up throughout all this year... I daresay upgrading to Top 30 was just part of the last contract he signed rather than earned from performances i.e. 1yr development deal 2024, upgrading to Top 30 for 2025.

I often roll my eyes when fans complain about signing athletes instead of footy players like Melbourne.

Like Vunivalu was some Rugby League genius.

However with Leota, his inexperience is so obvious it makes you wonder what Kevie, Scanlan and co. were thinking when they offered him that NRL spot.

Leoata hasn't gotten any chances in the NRL yet but he's actually a player I'm interested to see how he trains and develops with McGuire. Both our wing positions are open and he definitely has the potential.

Fingers crossed it all works out, but you have a whole season's worth of footage to watch over on QPlus. You have to earn an opportunity to play NRL and after that disaster of an U/19s Origin he was so far off the pace.

The only case I could make for him would be the Round 10 clash against the Tigers, which happened to be his first game of the season for Souths.

Also there's so many McGuires these days around Red Hill. Don't forget it's Maguire*

Maybe attack potential but my god his defence is utter putrid. The under 19s SOO game this year, he was caught badly out of position multiple times. Id say he is still a few years away from seeing first grade. He didn't seem to know the rules at all or have any positional awareness.

The media are really trying to suggest we are getting Hunt, yet there is no way we can sign him when the NRL slap a stupid overpriced min wage for him, considering Mams ban isn't looking to be as long as first rumoured if we were to sign him it would be a temp 6 then move to 9 for the back end of the season and then 7 for 26 onwards.

But unless NRL drop the BS 850k asking price he isn't coming.

Considering Hunt is a rep level player only when playing Hooker and only 1 hooker in the entire game is earning more than 850k it's a stupid asking price, surely worthy of an appeal though.

The nrl have never said he has an 850k price tag Badel has just made that number up and ran with it. His value will be determined when they weigh up how many offers he has and what the offers are and with only one offer that even hit the 800k mark his market value isn’t going to get near 850k
