Slothfield is saying that Tom Duffy is on his way down here. No doubt much less than Madden?

depth in the halves?

not putting all our eggs in the Black basket?

Admittedly, I haven't seen much of Black play, but from the reports io have seen, he is still a fair way away from being ready for NRL level

We would be in the same boat with Duffy. He hasn’t shown he’s near ready either.

Black wasn’t being brought into first grade until ‘27 at the earliest and even then it’s very possible that Hunt plays on and Black doesn’t become the halfback until ‘28.

Plenty of time to really ramp up his development.

The Duffy signing just doesn’t make much sense to me.

I think a backrower and another prop was more important.

@JayPee

what are your thoughts on potentially losing Duffy?
I think cows fans generally want Clifford playing... I thought Payten had told them both to leave, so it's interesting that there's been a change of heart on Clifford... probably because Purdue looks so bad whenever he's been in the halves

5 tries and 32 try assists in cup last year.

Coby is a great kicker and that’s about it at the moment.

Idk why the **** we would pass up our chance at getting our hands on a good young halfback and put all our eggs in the Black department. At its simplest Duffy is at least far more qualified for NRL next year than Black is.

He is still young but Black is not at all proving at the minute that in 18 months time he can be relied upon.

Yeah this is the answer... Duffy has played like 50 Qcup games and was halfback of the comp last year... was also one of the brighter prospects coming through his age group.

It looks like he needs to sort his defence out more than anything... which is probably just his size.

I didn't take too much notice of him at the start to get a gauge on his kicking game though... that's pretty much make or break for halves in NRL at the moment

I have never got the hype or whatever hype there is. Has not been good when he has played. Meant to be an organising halfback and just has looked scared to get involved. Kicking game has been disappointing. Going to take a long while I reckon if he ever gets there.

No you won't be the same, Duffy is three years older and further along than Black, Duffy has dominated a Cup season and shown he can take a team into the finals.

Duffy is not 30 games NRL ready, but he's certainly Reynolds injured 7 games "more ready" in 2026.

It's sounding like it's pretty well done, so I'm guessing it was dependent on Madden moving on, which should mean Duffy is on less than Madden.

If that's the case then probably a decent deal to get... although we already have a ton of halves and hookers on the books, so this becomes a 1 for 1 deal that doesn't open up any extra top 30 spots.

The Rogers deal looks like a complete waste of a top 30 spot at this stage, but he isn't going anywhere

That’s very debatable.

We probably have different standards of ready because when he did make the step up to the NRL, he didn’t show it.

We also need to remember there’s a **** ton more scrutiny at the Broncos than any other club. There’s double the amount of pressure because every wrong move is meticulously picked apart. It is relentless.

A change might be good for him; he's been there his whole life. Just like Dearden did going the other way.

He hasn't been given a fair go at the Cowboys or come into a team doing very well. Two games at the start of the year then a few more last rounds played off the bench and in halves and had two different partners in his four games in the halves.

He's done everything a young half can do up to this point, made a Meninga final, won a Colts premiership, got a team to Cup Prelim final and won half of the year. I am not judging him on 6 games at a disrupted disjointed team playing three different positions.

No way Hunt goes on after next year and if he does I hope it’s not with us. Our attack has been at its worst when he’s on the field.
