Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

The media have no idea about clubs salary caps. Point in case, the Roosters couldn't even afford to offer Hunt a competitive deal to get him there when we signed him yet the media were going on about how the Roosters have this big war chest etc.
They are purely putting one and two together to guess four and saying that doesn't work so one of them is leaving. Not saying Staggs or Cobbo aren't leaving but if you believed the media, the would already be signed by other clubs like Herbie and Flegler were in 2023 early on in the season.

Maybe not a war chest, but they definitely have cap money spare. They'd also have the money they were saving for Manu to return, before he decided to go to France.

2025 losses

Joseph Suaali'i (rugby union), Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (Hull KR), Joseph Manu (rugby union), Luke Keary (Catalans), Sitili Tupouniua (Bulldogs), Terrell May (Wests Tigers)

2025 gains

Mark Nawaqanitawase (rugby union), Chad Townsend (Cowboys)

Why are you assuming we will lose Cobbo? Because the media are saying it? Don't believe those idiots.
I personally don’t think we can afford to keep both. Last time I checked it sounded like we were keeping Staggs. So I assume Cobbo is going elsewhere for big money. Will be surprised if we can keep both.

I’d rather keep Cobbo if I had a choice.

Yeah I think the talk about us not being able to retain both is because the media put out an article that IF Cobbo were to play as a fullback he COULD get an offer near $1m... so they just keep referring back to that as to why we can't keep both.

We've got both now and neither of them warrant all that much of an increase in contract value, so if there's minimal increase to their current salary then it's basically status quo on the cap.

The question would be around if we've spent their money elsewhere with upgrades to Walsh, Ezra, etc.

That might come into it a bit, but Walsh is basically getting Reynolds money and he is looking likely to retire.

Ezra’s money will have to come from somewhere though and that might be causing us grief.

The question would be when are Walsh and Ezra’s upgrades hitting the cap... have they already hit the cap whilst we still have Hunt, Reynolds, Staggs and Cobbo... or are they hitting next year when only Reynolds is likely to be gone

Just because he’s in Madge’s supercoach team doesn’t mean Broncos can afford to stop another club from poaching him.

I don`t think he is Xavier Coates .
Meeting his parents and extended family will give Madge more authority . His parents will be echoing what Madge is saying to him . Train hard stay on the job .

Does Cobbo strike you as the sort of person willing to uproot and move to Sydney? He doesn't to me, at least. Maybe an obscene amount of money changes that, but I still just can't see him wanting to venture away from Brisbane, not anytime soon at least.

I think that well and truly has us in box seat 'IF' he performs this year, and is worthy of the new contract. Just thinking of his visits to Cherbourg and being close to family, I think if we want him to stay, and the offer isn't way way under, he'll stay.

Cobbo strikes me as a naive player that is likely to listen to a greedy agent who is looking for a quick pay day and not cobbo's long term career.

I could see cobbo going, and then getting homesick in a year or two and returning to QLD. Which team in QLD is not known.

I think Uncle Steve Renouf would have more influence than his manager .
They seem pretty close .

1.2 million a year to play Fullback for the Cowboys after they eventually wake up to how mediocre Drinkwater is.
