Now that the Wahs are opening an academy in Logan it's only fair that we open one in South Auckland. Get to work, DD!

We've been recruiting in NZ for years.

Notable current players we've recruited from NZ

Willison, Riki, Mariner

The Broncos only recruit from New Zealand or Gold Coast.

Mariner, Hoeter, Perham, Leota, Arthars, Karapani, Staggs, Rikki, Semu and Willison.

I probably wouldn't count Perham and Karapani as they came via Canterbury and Souths. Staggs? Bro grew up in Wellington NSW?

I'd looooove us to set up a little academy in NZ (like what Cameron George is doing with FT staff in Logan) and go after some more NZ talent, I mean, look at the back rowers coming out of the Wahs. Jesus.

This will be interesting to see how it goes as many young guys would sign to it bit then how many would be happy to move over here (im from auckland) when push comes to shove. I look at the Australian born players that do well over here are the seasoned mature players who were just looking for a change of scenery and a different opportunity.

I know the Wellington bit but I thought he spent time in New Zealand before going to the Dolphins.

Badel reporting that Kobe Hetherington has turned down two year offers from the Tigers and Dragons, to sign a one year extension with us. No mention of money

Hetherington’s manager Chris Haddad, said:

“It’s a great result,”

“Kobe is happy at the Broncos, so we were happy to extend for one year and we’ll see what happens after that.

“The Broncos offered us a two-year deal but we were happy to do another 12 months and Kobe will keep testing and challenging himself.

“He could have left the Broncos. Several Sydney clubs were keen on Kobe, but when we sat down with ‘Madge’ (Maguire), he wanted a chance to work with Kobe and he is enjoying being coached by Madge.

“We’re glad to have his future sorted. Kobe can relax now and focus on playing well for the Broncos in the run to the finals.”

Wondering if the short term nature is to do with the new CBA deal that potentially gets more clarity next year... might also be leveraging Perth coming into the comp.

Could also be that we can't offer him much next year, but the cap starts opening up from 2027 onwards... so Kobe is holding out looking to get more of that money.

I think thats good for all teams.

He needed to move for the good of his career.

It clears up cap space for broncos and he heads back to a team where he was a junior.

I actually think it's a strange move from My Madden.

While he certainly needed to move away from us, because it was clear he would unlikely be Reynolds successor, he's gone to a team where there is a better than good chance he'll just be a be a backup.

He should of gone to a team, either here or the ESL where he had a good chance of being the main guy

Yeah the destination is a bit odd... but maybe it at least secures him a spot back in Sydney.... so if he goes alright then he's at least in the shop window of the other 8 Sydney clubs.

At the tigers Fainu is being given the first opportunity and Douehi is playing lock at the moment... but Douehi could move on (there's been talk about panthers I think).

I could definitely see a situation where Fainu reverts back to playing as that ballplaying middle off the bench, because he looked really good there and it is becoming a very important position across the league.

I think Tigers best lineup this year is actually 6. Douehi 7. Luai and 14. Fainu... but the club might be moving on from Douehi so aren't really wanting to play him at 6.
