Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Out in the city tonight. Dunno how reliable, but have been told we have Haas for next 2 years, then he going to PNG
Absolutely nobody of marquee stature is stupid enough to sign for a team that hasn't started yet, has no players, and hasn't appointed a coach.

Are the young kiwi boys we just signed any good?
Are you referring to the story from the Courier Mail?

I haven't had a chance to see Calvin Harris-Tavita but he's one to keep an eye on. He'll play U/17s next year and the word is that he's one of the most skillful and agile halves to come through in years.

Barry Taukolo played fullback this year in U/17s but I haven't had a chance to watch him, it is the off-season so I'll marathon the Seagulls U/17 season.

Nio Verhoeven was phenomenal in U/19s and is the type of player who could parachute into the NRL. Still eligible for U/19s next year, it's only a matter of time before he plays QCup.

Tomu Cook is another player they left off but he's one of the more exciting New Zealand prospects the Broncos have coming through.

Yeah I was,
thanks for that information.
I knew someone would know about them.
I assume it would be you.

Thank you again

Calvin I have only ever seen bits and pieces of but have heard for years of his ability. Never quite seen enough to grasp the level of hype and whether it is deserved however what I have seen he is a very good union player for only 16 so I’m going to say it likely is. Seen a lot more of his stuff through union than league and even that is very little. Starting fullback for Kings College Auckland who came top of the ladder in Auckland schools union comp. Just finished year 12 (out of 13) so coming to Australia for year 12, would be interested to know where he is going? (@1910 or @Big Pete). Likely at this stage of a schooling journey Keebra or the likes rather than a union school who would be a bit more uptight about the academic logistics of moving countries for year 12 schooling when year 11 components count towards your score. Nonetheless would be interested to know if anyone knows? Either Nudgee or Churchie or one of the league schools on the coast would be my guess.

Barry Taukolo. I’m a big Union fan as well as rugby league and I watch and follow schoolboy union as well so have gotten to see a bit of Barry this year through the GPS with Nudgee. Only in Year 10 this year so long way to go. Played on the wing but boy is he special. Super quick. Obviously playing fullback for Wynnum in Cyril which I didn’t get to watch him play but from what I saw for Nudgee to me he seems a bit more of an outside back than fullback so my guess is it’s just a case of being a lot better than everyone his age so put him in a more influential position. Started the season for Nudgee very strongly but did plateau a little bit as the season went along. Was in a team that broke a long standing points record for a GPS season. Obviously a contributor but the majority of his forward pack was in the Reds academy and or junior wallabies and all his fellow backs were NRL contracted or junior wallabies. Bradley Bond (I don’t rate to highly to bother remembering) and Oli Patterson (far outperformed Barry come the end of the year but was year 12) are 2 other Broncos in the back line at Nudgee. Noah Fien the Dolphins u19 and Meninga halfback was also the fullback in that side. Won every game by 50 plus and ended the year ranked as the top schoolboy Union team in the world so not exactly ever challenged to be truely tested but very strong player for yr 10. Exciting.

Antonio is freaking outstanding. He is as good as an outside back prospect comes. How he isn’t one of the devs contracted players astounds me. Absolute gem of a player we have gotten our hands on. Him and Tupou Francis are bloody exciting prospects for the future.

Word was when Tomu came over he was a fullback but predominantly played and has only ever played centre when I’ve watched him. Pretty good player but haven’t really seen enough of him to comment to what distance or level he can go to. A lot of strong athletic outside backs in our system the past couple years that look the part playing Cyril but it’s just to hard to know until yr 12 school footy and Meninga footy to really know where they stand. A lot of strong outside backs in brisbane system at the minute so whether he will shine through yet to be seen. Captains the magpies Cyril team as well which is worth noting. He just left for South Sydney but I was a bigger fan of Dean Tauaa whenever I had the chance to watch him than Tomu.
